Caffiene and insulin?

I just started a low carb diet today...South Beach...doing it to support my GF who really wanted to try it. Anyway, I read that caffiene is not allowed during Phase 1 (very low carb) because it can induce an insulin spike. Any truth to this? I was planning on taking half doses of Xenedrine to help keep the energy up but don't want to undermine the whole point of low GI carb diets.

i am under the assumption that coffee in moderation(minus alot of cream and sugar completely) will not induce a huge insulin spike. Caffeine actually has been shown to have thermogenic properties. i say if u want a cup here and there, go for it and it will not hinder your progress

I am under the assumption that caffeine is often advised during cutting, I mean what about the ECA stack, right?

What if it has a little bit of milk?

south beach which is a modified atkins takes alot from dr atkins studies

dr atkins was wrong on the assumption that caffiene was bad
when he had his patients drop milk and sugared sodahe found alot of them resorted to coffee and diet pop
he then assumed aspartame and caffiene were spiking insulin
what he did not realize is that some people are sensitive to the citric acid in soda
citric acid can kick some people out of ketosis
this was discovered in later year
and no one revised the diet
why fuck with something that works?
as for aspartame
i still don't use it but if you do count it as 2 g carb per tablespoon
i think that would be 4 per can of soda if you decide to risk the citric acid

hope this was worth some karma

I'm not interested in soda...aside from a random caffiene-free diet coke to keep me sane. I was concerned with just caffiene as it's a big part of Xenedrine. So 100mg of caffiene morning and afternoon shouldn't be a problem as far as staying in ketosis?

no
it will not turn you out of ketosis
but if you drink a pop it may

caffiene is a thermogenic and will enhance fat burning

I dont know where the whole caffeine causing an insulin spike came from but its bullshit. I think the authors of these diets want to taut a 'healthier' lifestyle and a way of doing so is by shunning coffee and caffeine. I, my clients, and training partners have done CKD before or very low carb diets. When in ketosis coffee, or ECA has NEVER kicked me out.
