I was just reading the bio on a fitness model, Brandy Flores.
It sounds like bs to me.
She only has 4 meals a day,
doesnt lift weights, and does over a hour of cardio a day.

I copied a page from her site.. comments please. It looks like bad advice to me. well hear it is.................................

To everyone asking questions about diet and exercise:
I am supplying this page because I am receiving too many letters to respond to, and most everyone has the same questions.

1. If you want to take Hydroxycut follow what the bottle says, and if your body cannot handle taking more than 1 3x a day do just that or take it right before you work out. If you are taking it all day long sometimes it is easier to take it before a meal. Yes, I do believe it will help take off the weight as it did for me. I did follow the dosing up to the highest amount you can take.

2. Cardio and diet are the most important to lose weight. You can see my diet in the Fitness section. I will answer any questions you might have about it. I have 2 different diets, they simply show you how many meals to eat a day and how many calories: how many grams of fat, carbs, and protein. You can switch in any other foods you want as long as you stick to the amount of grams-calories. Also I started on my 1700-calorie diet for the first 8 weeks then went down to the 1400 calorie's for the last 8 weeks.

3. Cardio: If you don't already have one go and buy a heart rate monitor, you can buy a cheap one for about $50, this is a very important buy. I used to use mine every day for the past 5 years, I now know my body well enough to go with out it…finally!! You can find them on line or at your nearest sports store. I have the brand "POLAR heart rate monitor". When doing cardio you should stay in your target heat rate for burning fat. For me that is 125-140 BPM (Beats per minute). If you want to lose weight you need to do cardio 6x per week if you can. I understand that is a lot but try at least to do 5x per week. I do 45 mins a day 5-6 days a week. When losing my 30 lbs I did 60 mins, sometimes up to 75 mins, but once the weight is off you will not have to keep this up as long as you stick to eating right…

4. Be Patient!!! I lost 2 lbs per week, that's it… it took me almost 4 months to lose the weight, 16 weeks. BE PATIENT!!!

5. I cannot stress enough about diet; have a cheat day once a week. (Don't go crazy) but go off the diet and if you cheat during the week, don't beat yourself up over it, just get back to it the next day.

6. Exercise: cardio, cardio, cardio, yes I used to use weights. I do not anymore. I do Pilates 2x per week. If you want to use weights, I would train like this: 3 days in the gym, 2 days upper body and one day legs, yes on the upper body days I would do some lunges and step ups for my legs also. I do 3sets 20 reps for legs (3x20) for arms I do 3sets 12 reps (3x12)… I train back and bi's one day, then tri's, shoulders, and chest another. Some days I would do bi's, tri's, and chest and then back and shoulders on another day. As far as the amount of weight: machines it depends on what machine, dumbbells 5,10 and 15. Do what you feel you can do…you're not going to get huge unless you are training like the guy next to you.

7. Supplements: I do eat Muscletech bars: Nitro-tech and Mesotech. Also Nitro-tech protein powder, it taste great with water then you have to option to eat carbs…

8. DO NOT Freak out by weighing your self everyday, from one day to the next you can be holding water up to 5 lbs on any given day.

I truly hope I have answered your questions and that I have helped you in some way!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!! Please feel free to keep me updated on your progress or should I say success!!!!

Brandy Marie Flores.

She's a muscletech athlete? Well it's obvious what market they're trying to target with their products if they're using her as a spokesmodel. & That market does NOT include female athletes.

Yup, that seems accurate to me. She definitely has the body of a cardio-bunny who eats low-cal. Her thighs are so thin, as are the arms, & no 6-pack. Doesn't surprise me at all that she advocates that workout.

I also happen to know that there are plenty of women who want that skinny-& not really toned look. One friend of mine calls it the, "BOY BODY".

Actually a lot of the advice is decent (diet is important, be patient, don't weigh yourself all the time). Except the cardio crap, of course.

It was her cardio crap and what she eats on her site that bothered me. And the fact that she stopped lifting weights.

What I find perturbing is where I moved from, muscular (in a feminine way mind you) was the hottest way to go and if you were after the "boy bod" you were definitely in the wrong town. Now, I live on the beach and a woman with any kind of muscle is frowned upon, especially by the male population. It is very confusing to me, as the young women who are starving themselves to achieve the "boy bod" end up getting married, having kids and completely losing their slim figures, then complaining because they cannot regain the bodies they once had. If only they would have eaten more and put some muscle onto their bodies, maybe they could have had an easier time regaining a "youthful" figure. And even more sad is the advertising for the fat burners and hyping of mega cardio sessions. How much more simpler it could be if they would push weight training more in conjunction with diet, cardio, and supplements.

Easily, most women would look and feel better if they would just gain 5-10 pounds of muscle. I'm really leery of this pilates trend. And I'm getting rather tired of the "do cardio to get fit" nonsense.

What I see in the gym is this trend, to "go around" the compound exercises, like squats, deads, bench and to do "nice and comfortable" exercises, like lunges, anything with a fitball, and cables. Oh, and people just huffing and puffing away on the various cardio equipment.

I've been doin' this stuff for 19-years, and I'm here to tell people that the compound movements and actually sweating in the gym, lifting heavy iron is worth it. Chicks like this (Brandy), are a dime a dozen. She's the current flavor, matches a trend. And no one will remember her name (does anyone now?), a year from now.

Oh, just some thoughts......

Where was this??!!! I wanna go! :wavey:

Slinky - I second your leeriness of pilates! I'm an aerobics instructor & as such hear the cardio bunnies chatting & answer their questions about the quest to be slim. I see it as one of the hottest things in the industry as well, Pilates instructors usually make near triple what all other types of fitness instructors make. it has it's good points, but it's NOT the perfect exercise & the only thing we should do.

I believe I recently saw an article that strength/resistance training is beneficial to our health (& not just ANY type of exercise, as ACSM has stated for years) - gotta dig that one out! :)

So how long do you think she can keep eating like that and taking Hydroxycut before she passes out or falls apart like glass?
LOL

you're not going to get huge unless you are training like the guy next to you.

She forgot to add "and taking special supplements" to that statement. *sigh*

And Slinky- since when are lunges easy and comfortable exercises?? :D
