Hey, I got a call back from 2-24 Hour fitnesses to come in for interviews.... is that bad to go on them both? :) One is in Irvine and one is here in Anaheim Hills...

here is what you gotta keep in mind.

DRIVING TIME.

there are 3 main busy times at most gyms.
early morning from 6-9 am
mid afternoon 11-1
evening 4-8

that leaves a couple hours of downtime. chances are you may not fill all those hours so you may have a "dead" hour in there as well where you are doing paperwork, sitting around, eating, or working out.

i have the luxury of being about 10 min away from the gym so i will take odd appt times, but if you work 20-30 min away or more, you will either have to really stick to your guns with your clients about having them schedule back to back with each other or do alot of driving.

i would stay close to home in this case, it sounds like both areas are rather well off so clients wont be too much of a problem. are either clubs, sport clubs? that would be the way to go. larger member base, more amenities, larger draw of those looking for a "better" club. hence....more open to training.

just my thoughts.

So nice you said it twice. :)

Yeah, driving time is key. One is about 17 miles away, the other one is like 2 miles away. The one 2 miles away is a Sport... I have that interview on Friday.

I just wanted to know if it would be BAD to go to BOTH interviews, as they are both the same company. :)

C,
I am not a 24 hour trainer, first off. However, I do have common sense. That may be enough. If the interviews are with the same company, go to the one closer to you. If they ask you if you can relocate, tell them you would be willing to drive to the other site 17 miles away. What do you think?

actually transfer is not that easy, and fitness managers basically control their hiring process. central records are kept but transfer is not easy, and the interview process doesnt carry over to other clubs. you could go talk to both of the FM's and see what they have to say but basically you are working for the same rate and go through the same processes at each club. only thing that might be important would be how badly a fitness manager needs trainers, which will ensure you are busy right from the get go.

True, I went to the Irvine 24 today... it's about 17 miles away... it seemed like a family atmosphere, the FM was very cool. I'm going in for an "interview" with the Anaheim Hills on this Friday at 10am... I want to have the option to go to whichever one will hire me, and has the best atmosphere... that's what I'm looking for .... the 17 mile drive won't kill me, at all.

17 miles is nothing if your getting paid.

My gym is 22 miles from my house and I drive it 5 days a week just so I can pay to workout. :D

Good luck on the job!

17 miles in southern california vs. 17 miles in oklahoma is waaaay different. :)

i would stay local. the pay scale is the same regardless and chances are both gyms are pretty well off. just see how much the fitness manager at each will blow you up/how well you get along with each guy. if you think one will be better for you then the cashflow might be good and you can keep your appointments back to back to save downtime and trips.
