Best way to broaden your shoulders...

Besides focussing on your delts, is there any other way to help broaden your shoulders? Like if I broaden my back out more, would that make my shoulders look wider? Or am I pretty much stuck at the width I am.....

thanks bros :)

It is pretty tough to actually broaden your shoulders. Whatever bone growth is there is there and that is it. I would think that laterals, Deadlifts, Bent over rows may help give an illusion of breadth. There is a guy at my gym that has delts like volleyballs, but his shoulder width is pretty narrow.

I guess you should just bitch out your parents for having such shitty genetics. I already berated mine.

Your genetics will only allow so much... but I have found that doing dropsets of side laterals after doing very heavy presses will fatique the delts enough to shock them into growing....ex...12 sets of 12 reps with 12 seconds of rest between each set...start as heavy as you can, and by the time you reach the last set you'll be lucky if you can do 10lbs dumbells...this one is a bitch, give it a try:)

The basics.....wide grip chins, weighted if you can.

BPP

BPP is absolutely correct.

You should also try rear delt exercises since they often get neglected (even though they give you the illusion of wide shoulders).

2thick hit the nail on the head with this one. The rear delts are the place to add size. Do heavy behind the head presses to tire them out then kill them with drop sets of bent raises. This will pop the back out giving you a bigger look from behind. ROCK ON!!!

It's not really the shoulder width, it's more in the back. You can have huge delts, but not much width. I got my wide shoulders/back from doing wide grip pull downs. Shoulder mass is definately military press, laterals and bent laterals. That's what works for me, but everyone is different.

It's all about a big back and small waist...that is what makes you look wide. Also don't overdevelop the traps in relation to the delts. I don't buy too much into the appearance of width being genetically determined...when I started lifting people said I had narrow clavicals and would never be wide, and now they say I have a naturally wide frame, so I don't buy into that whole line of thinking.

Also, have you ever noticed that the "frat boy lifters" who train chest 3 days a week and never do back all have slumped postures that make their shoulders look even narrower, especially from the back?
