Am I Overtraining?

Amica

New member
I never thought that their was a possibility that I might be overtraining until someone at one of the other boards that I post at brought it up. I supose I could be and not realize it cause I used to do so much more and then this past year have eased up a little. I admit I used to drastically overtrain but i thought i was doing wel so I need opinions please. Here's my week:
M- Shoulders- 4exercise, 3-4 sets of 8-10 reps;abs: 20min HIIT
T-Legs-4-5 exercises, 3-4 sets of 10-15 reps; 40 min long low intensity cardio: 45min yoga class
W- Chest- 4 exercise; 3-4 set or 8-10 reps; 45 min Spinning class
TH- Back-4 exercise; 3-4 set of 8-10 reps; 45 min pilates; 20min HIIT
F- 45min Yoga class
Sat- Abs; 60 min Spinning class; 40 min Yoga

I can't get rid of the Spinning clases becasue I'm the one who teaches it. I do a lot of yoga and one pilates class a week becasue I have scoliosis and this helps to stretch and lenghten all my muscles that are being pulled out of alignment as well as help with some core strength for back support.

I don't feel overly tired or get sick or have injuries often either. I've been extremely athletic all my life and like I said before this paast year I was doing way more so the stuff I'm doing now seems like a luxury for me. I am still seeing results and have not gained any weight or lost and strenght since I lightened up on my training, but I was hoping that someone could offer some insight.

Mods I'm sorry can you please move this post over to the Female training section where I meant to post it- my brain is not working yet this morning. thanks!

If you don't FEEL overtrained - then why are you worried?

Everyone has a different point where it is "overtraining" to their body ... there is no set formula or workout routine that dictates overtraining.

If this routine is working for you - and helping you meet your goals - then stick with it.

Thanks thats kind of what my mindset was but I got nervous when a few people at one of the other boards were all over me about it.

I do one bodypart per day bit I do considerably less sets

As Daisy said, "overtraining" is relative. Especially if you are conditioned, such as w/ the spin classes. Personaly those alone would kill me, but I have done maybe 3 classes in my life. Obviously I'm not "conditioned" in that area.

The litmus test is overtraining = underrecovery. If you start feeling exhausted, lethargic, can't sleep, losing interest in things or panicky about results that might be stalling out. And this is over a long period of time. That's when you should take a good look at what you are doing. Otherwise, if other people don't know you and your body, then they can only comment, not state absolutes.

Maybe they are thinking in terms of "If I was doing that, I would be overtraining/exhausted/lethargic..."?

I'm understand the points Sassy & DG are saying, but to me it does seems like you are doing alot, but if it's not broken...
