? about my strength.

I have been sick with mono for the past 4 days and haven't been able to lift for the past 6 days. I think I have eaten a total of 6 times in the past 6 days, also. Any ideas of what I could do to not lose too much strength while at the same time recover from this crappy sickness? I feel like I've been run over by a semi truck. It really sucks.

I was supposed to do the strongwoman contest in Boston and I don't even know if I will be ready for it because I haven't been able to (and won't be able to) train for a while.

Really...is there ANYTHING I could do? I don't want to get too far down in the hole and not be able to recover quickly enough. Any suggestions?

I have been taking my meds regularly...and got a steroid shot and a rocephin (antibiotic) shot yesterday and so far that has helped me out tremendously. I have been trying to get as many fluids down me as I can, but because my throat is extremely swollen it hurts each and every time I swallow. What can I do???

Every case of Mono I've heard about involved 6 months of feeling like crap and taking twice as long to fully recover from. Real sorry to hear about this.

Best to ask your doctor about the most pro-active therapy you can handle.

I have been down this road girl...I pray that yours is better than mine but it HAS to be. Do NOT push it...take your time.

If you need any help...you know who to call...

Good luck on your recovery. Hope you feel better soon. The only advice I can give you is to eat anything you can. Even if it is junk food, just try to get something in you. It will be better than nothing. Just eat whatever you can.

My middle daughter had mono a few months ago so I know what you're going thru. :bawling: When her throat hurt so bad that she could barely eat/swallow (and when she has a bad case of canker sores) I was told by her doc to give her a combined dosage of milk of magnesia and benadryl. That, gargling with salt water, and/or sore throat lozenges can help a lot.

Also, I was advised by her doctor to keep her from doing any strenuous activity or lifting for 3 to 4 weeks afterwards to prevent injury to the spleen. You definitely don't want to overdo it. If you rush it, you might end up even sicker, kwim? ("know what I mean") The best thing you can do is get plenty of rest and not do anything strenuous, take your medicines, and drink/eat as much as you can.

Nutrition-wise, I tried to give her liquids (like water and juice) plus one's with nutrition in it like Carnation Breakfast drinks so at least she would intake some beneficial stuff like vitamins and minerals. I think if you can make a smoothie or something that is cold it can ice the throat area and maybe not hurt you so much.

Keep in mind I have 3 kids who has had every illness imaginable so my advice is based on what worked for us...

I hope you feel better.. take care! :)

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm actually hoping that this case won't nearly be as long as most of them are. After I got my shots yesterday, it seems like I slept forever. I woke up at 7 this morning and haven't been able to go back to sleep, but haven't done anything productive either. I feel much better today and can actually swallow a bit easier. My throat is covered with sores, though....and actually, warm liquids, like coffee, are easier for me to get down than ice cold liquids.

I am just chillin' out with my dog, and I guess my only real concern is what can I do to not lose too much strength. I have worked so hard to get where I'm at. I really don't want to back track.

I am praying that this is a slight case...and not a real severe one. I don't have a clue how I got it either. I haven't done anything to get this.

This is the worst advice possible; Bfold is probably the sick bastard who gave you mono in the first place. Who knows how many other crippling diseases this dirtbag is carrying. My advice is to stay far away from this guy. :D

Nightfly,

Hang in there!! It is more important to restore your health than to worry about your strength. Your body is in the process of fighting this condition. All you have to do is keep your nutrition in line, keep the fluids circulating the system, and get plenty of rest. When you recover from the crud, I promise you. . .your strength will rebound. In the meantime, get plenty of rest and good luck!!

hopefully yours will last as long as mine did. . . about a week and 3 days, but I didn't grt much time off from school, because it was the week before Thanksgiving:bawling:
