5X5 Questions

Vicious cycle

New member
It looks like a great program to run, I just have a couple questions.
First: are you only doing 3 exercises per body part, e.g. flat bench5X5, incline dumbbell press 2x8-10, incline flies 2x8-10?

Second: are you moving up in weight each set, say starting the flat bench at 180, 185, 190, 195 and finishing the 5th set at 200 for 5 reps?

And lastly: What combination do you do? For example, a typical workout day is chest/tri's, rest, Back/bi's, rest, legs, and rest. Is it the same method? So would a typical 5X5 day consist of 3 chest movements/3 tri movements? I guess included in this question is frequency, how many times in one week do you do whatever?

Thanks for the help.

All in the sticky but:

Yes, three exercises. My take is to do the 5x5 one on every workout, but you can change the 2 x 8-10 each time for variation (I would stick to a few basic good ones tho)

Stay with the same weight on each set, move up in small increment each week on the 5x5, this is where your focus should be, move up on the others when you can.

Split is kind of up to you, a number are given as examples in the sticky. Yours would be ok, but no shoulders? FYI, I am currently doing:

Mon - Legs
Tues - Chest
Wed - Rest
Thurs - Shoulders / Back
Fri – Bi’s / Tri’s

Once a week is working for me as this is fairly high volume. If you are doing arms after Chest / Back, you could drop an arm move if you feel they are getting overworked.
