Working At a Gym?

mdd

New member
Does anyone here work or used to work at a gym? how was it? their opening up a new one here and i'm thinking about putting a app in.

i figure it'd be a good part time gig while i'm goin to school and plus i can kill two birds with one stone when i'm at the gym to begin with ;)

Duritz works at a gym...For the most part, all you really have to do is answer phones, and restack weights, and clean. Every once in a while you may have to show someone around who may want to join up.

I did maintenence at one,it was a great job until they cut my hours,I got a free gym to workout at which was sweet

I don't think I would like working at a gym... I would be there during the day and then have half interest in my workouts....

I've worked in a couple, but mainly the Gold's Gym in my town. I did it for about a year. It was OK- you know, unless they hire you for sales you're basically going to be a staffer. Burning_Inside described what my job consisted of pretty well. The pay is usually pretty low, and you don't exactly feel all high-status when you're taking out trash and mopping floors and stuff, but the free membership I got was nice and it paid the bills (until they cut my hours, anyway... and so began my employment at this library and the beginning of my multi-thousand post experience on EF... but I digress).

It sounds like it might be a good gig for you for what you want it for. And at least in a gym environment you're living around "the lifestyle" quite a bit and you're breathing clean air. It's a much healthier setting than bouncing in a bar or something.

One thing though at my Gold's was that it really pissed the owner off if he walked in and saw you working out on the clock. If you were lifting a weight, it had better damned well be because you were re-racking it. This seemed reasonable to me, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't occasionally sneak a couple of quick sets here and there later on at night when it was slow. But anyway, just don't plan on being able to work out at the same time you're working. They may let you, but if so just consider it a bonus.

That's about all I can think of to tell you. Nothin' too special. :)

Think if i worked at a gym, i wouldn't have motivation to go work out afterwards. When i used to bartend in college, i didn't drink for 2 straight summers. Being around alcohol and seeing how it screwed people over, i went dry.. only when i quit, i started to drink again !!

for me when I worked in a gym it was my motivation,I had no excuse not to workout because I was already there
