While on, how much protein do you eat?

Anyone know how much protein your body can use in one serving for a 200lb man on cycle?

200lb is about 90kg, so you'll need to take in at least 5000 calories. If you go by the textbook, its a minimum of 1lb per pound, so that 200grams of protein you need. Easy if you get in the 5000 calories and ensure most of them come from proper foods. The shake is only a supplement, nothing more. It is also just as important you eat every 2-3 hours and don't "starve" your body. I like to set my alarm to get up in the middle of the night to have a quick snack at 3am.

Hey RiverRock, I'm not doubting you at all, but I was just wondering if there was any scientific proof that protein shakes like whey are actually inferior to whole food protein like beef, chicken, eggs, etc? I know at my size, with my crappy appetite and fast metabolism, it's basically impossible to get 300 grams of protein a day from whole foods, about half my protein comes from shakes and I can't tell a difference from when I switched from mostly whole food to about 50/50. Only difference is, I save money on food as protein powder is cheaper, and I don't get sick of eating as often :) I wonder how much difference it truly would make where you get your protein from, as long as it's complete protein and you're getting it on a regular basis. That being said, I do still try to get as much whole-food protein as I can, but it's just easier on my body and wallet to do it about half with shakes now.

Good post Tux,

I think the big problem with substituting whey for whole food is the amount of vitamins, iron, creatine that you are denying yourself that come with whole food. Having said that, you'd need to eat 7 stakes (10 ounce) to get the same amount of creatine as you'd find in one helping of creatine mono. So, it makes sence to supplement yourself and yes, you can't make your calories without them. But my point is that your body needs alot more than simple whey and by denying it whole food, you are effectively starving yourself. But, if your eating well and keeping yourself loaded with protein every 2 hours you'll make great gains

"RECALL THAT THE BODY CAN NOT STORE EXCESS AMINO ACIDS AS SUCH, IT HAS TO CONVERT THEM TO OTHER COMPOUNDS. CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION , A PERSON CANNOT GROW MUSCLE SIMPLY BY EATING PROTEIN. lEAN TISSUE SUCH AS MUSCLE DEVELOPS IN RESPONCE TO A STIMULUS SUCH AS HORMONES OR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. WHEN A PERSON OVER EATS PTROTEIN , THE BODY USES SURPLUS FIRST BY REPLACING NORMAL DAILY LOSSES AND THEN BY INCREASING PROTEIN OXIDATION. THE BODY ACHIEVS PROTEIN BALANCE THIS WAY, BUT ANY INCREASE IN PROTIEN OXIDATION DISPLACES FAT IN THE FUEL MIX. ANY ADDITIONAL PROTEIN IS THEN DEAMINATED AND THE REMAINING CARBONS ARE USED TO MAKE FATTY ACIDS. THUS A PERSON CAN GROW FAT BY EATING TO MUCH PROTEIN. "

But uh, don't listen to me.. cause I'm a girl and don't know anything.

Yeah I don't mean to be an arse. And I understand I'm in a man's world. But come on, give some respect when respect is due. Don't toss my shit aside cause I'm a girl. I'll throw a fucking fit bigger than any of you boys.
