whey protein problem

opus

New member
I am forming a 12 week precontest diet, but the problem I am faced with is weather or not I should use whey protein during my last four weeks of dieting. I have heard some bodybuilders say to eliminate the whey because it is deriver from milk. Than I heard some say to keep it because its a good protein source.

Hell no....don't cut it out.....I'd go with some whey isolate. The difference between isolate and concentrate is that concentrate is about 70% protein and the rest is sugars, fats, and flavorings. Isolate is about 90% protein and the rest is sugars, fats, and flavorings. Granted concentrate tastes better, but at that point in your dieting you shouldn't be worrying about taste. I would, however, only take the protein when I wake up and before I go to sleep. It doesn't really matter what type of isolate you choose (ion-exchanged, cold-filtered, etc....) just as long as it's isolate. You could take concentrate but I wouldn't in your case.

Big Mag:

Good Idea about taking it upon waking up

Bad Idea about before Bed (It will be digested in no time leaving your body nothing to work with for the 8 hour fast while you sleep)

Best Idea use it post workout*********

If you are not in it for the carbs then you may wanna try Isopure Zero Carb. Its lactose free. Just a little FYI.

it is good to take protein before you go to bed ( even better if you take casien or any protein with peanut butter, for slower digestion) because you will digest the protein slower when you sleep and you will absorb more of it. Your body needs something to help recooperate with while you are sleeping since that is the best way for you body to do so.

Bigmag I agree you need protein before bed I simply meant not to use whey due to the fact it will be digested to fast and leave you with nothing for most of the night. I agree about the added fats personally I use casien with a tbls of Udos choice or some natural peanut butter. If you dont have access to a casien powder or a protein blend you are much better off eating FF cottage cheese and saving the whey for after your workout when the fast digesting protein is optimal.

I gotca man....I just didn't wanna hit him with like 8 different kinds of protein....it's obvious he doesn't know alot about them ( no offense intended opus) but you're right....casien would be the best choice for a bedtime protein source.
