whats up with the "big guns" look?

everywhere i go i see dudes that have big guns (17"-18") and yet they have weak chest development and no traps!

WTF is this trend?

Im only 17 but i've got bigger shoulders than guys that are 24-25...its crazy. (ok, so i have smaller arms than them)

"big guns" is a relative term and tends to constitute shape and size, and not tape measurement IMO. ive seen plenty of guys with big arms, but you cant tell the difference between brachialis, bicep, etc. no lines on their triceps. big but not impressive.

its probably how the guys train. not alot of compound movements or too much emphasis on arm movement and not enough on the back/chest/shoulder girdle.

Repling to what bignate said, I've been losing definition in my arms by doing compound movements. I had a lot more when I spent a day each week doing isolation bi and tri work. Now they only get worked when I do back and chest, I've lost some size and some definition but the strength has gone up.

But in regard to the original question they probably just work arms and chest. I know ppl that hardly ever/never work shoulders. My roomate only does arms and chest, 3 times a week. Now he's having shoulder pain, probably b/c his shoulders are very weak compared to his well developed chest and also rotator cuff do to lots of heavy benching the bodybuilder style.

Those are the guys that only do it to pick up women and look big to their buddies, not for any real love of the iron....

Big guns.

As a guy who has not broke the twenty inch cold measurement I can say the arms are a real issue for me.

I do believe in training all the bodyparts seriously, and prioritizing weakspots, but poor proportion IS really common in the gym. I admit that I dont train my traps directly very often because on me, the hieght of my traps makes my shoulders look more narrow. I do hit all three heads of my delts though because I am a believer in the wider is better theory on shoulders.

My chest grows easily due to my powerlifting days, so back proportion is my emphasis, but the bird chested; big wing look is just not right. All in all I think alot of people are t-shirt bodybuilders, and maybe only ten percent of the training population are after the total package of symetry, proportion, strength, size, definition, endurance, and flexability.

But thats what seperates the winner from the also-rans so to each their own.

KATANA.

My arms have shrunk (biceps anyway) but everything else is growing...I love it. lol...

i may fall in this category somewhat, i would say my bi's and tri's are my best bodyparts

my quads are second best

calves are worst

sholders are not that great

chest decent

back not that great

for me i just can bring up my sholders, chest and back my arms and quads are easy, i work everything equally, and now finally starting to pay more attention to calve development
