Whats the atmosphere like in your gym?

Mine is one of those fitness types everybody hates, there's plasma screens all over the place and they basically play whatevers on MTV, hearing Dido or some shit like that is not the sort of thing you really wanna be hearing on leg day

In the week during peak hours (when I normally go although this is now going to change) it is full of mainly pretty boys, its funny how you guys describe them, doing there curls and bench press and thats it, that is so right, I dont think they will ever get the idea that you need to work YOUR DAMN TRIS ASWELL, or back or shoulders or legs. I dont think they eat either as they just look skinny. They have Fashion TV written all over them. I am one of the very few who trains alone, the rest mainly chat and laugh through there workout and hog the equipment. Infact I think I am one of the very few who sweats like I'm melting aswell, you either give it your max or dont bother.

Women, now the women, mmmm there are some nice nice women, but there are no real fitness types, maybe a couple but thats it. Not that that is bad, but it would be nice to see some women with a LITTLE muscle tone.

The trainers are useless, infact sometimes they get in the way, they will try and chat to you, I hate that, I am trying to get in train get out, I dont want to be chatting to anyone.

Nobody takes the weight off once theyve finished, this is a pain in the ass and is lack of respect.

It has aircon, two saunas, two pools, internet access, a library, etc etc.

Its got everything I need for now and opens at 6am, but soon I know I will change to one of the hardcore gyms with no AC.

I have a home gym so I don't have to put up with the shit that goes on in public gyms...plus I get to play that real heavy music and no nsync shit!!!!!

I recently had to move to another gym this past feb. The gym where i came from was pretty hardcore and. The gym at one time used to be a taxi cab garage so there was no AC or heat. This by itself weeded out a lot of folks who were used to working out in a 60 degree room and used to the fitness atmosphere. Anyway that gym closed down and a lot of the members went down the road to another gym. That atmosphere is way different compared to where i came. The gym i go to now has spinning, yoga, aerobics, the usual crap to get overweight huskys in the gym. Even though there are people who train for "tone" and don't want to get "too big", my buddies and I make up for that. Its pretty funny looking at the faces of chicken legged lawyers and beach muscle wannabees when were doing deads, squats and the occasional farmers walk contest. Their look is either of amazement or pure terror. I think the only time these people step into a powerrack is to hanging leg raises (its a pure shame).Either way its still funny to see these fools doing exercises with bad form and no technique. I sort of made it a point to tell people when they are doing an exercise wrong. I might as well since everyone else is laughing and talking behind their back. I think of that as my good deed for the day; helping an uninformed newbie before they kill themselves in the gym. We should all make a small contribution to their ignorance by providing them with some of our knowledge, don't ya think?:fro:

I use 3 different YMCA's in my area depending on what I want.
The newest one has killer Cybex Freeweight Equipment and lots of it.
It also has a good mix of interesting cardio equipment to keep me from geting too bored.
When I want to swim, I hit the Y with the Indoor Lap pool.

As far as the atmosphere, It is a Mix of types.
Old farts
Young University girls
Intense people like myself
Newbies

having the option of using any number of YMCA facilities in town means you see new people all the time as well as the same old cronic's every morning at 05:30

small 1 room gym, has every things black and silver. 2 sets of dumbbells that go up to 120, one set is is heavier by 2IBs than what it says so you can stagger up by 2 and then 3 instead of 5.

No attendies people often go in w/o paying as I did for like 7 mo. after my membership ran out. If you still in there when its closing time they just clean around you and then let you lock up.

2benchs 1 squat rack, 2 letgpress 1 bike(other is broke) 4 treads, 1-2 stairs (depends if there both working) some wack neck training thing I've only seen used once, seated row pull down, chin bar, some nice slanted bar for doing pulls (not sure what its called), pec deck, 2 cable machines across from each other, hamstrong and quad machine, smith machine, decline bench and a decline bench w/ a rack, adjustable incline bench, and an incline bench w/ a rack thats is too inclined works mainly shoulders, and we have some of that gimiccky ab shit and some gimicky cardio contraption that are all thrown in the gym corner. Seated curl, and standing curl thing. Alot of odd shaped bars.

We have powder TOO!

Its a damn nice gym I wish it was open longer Some insanely early morning time till 9pm, you can stay later but you gotta get there by 9, so that you can lock up and not have the doors locked on you.

ahh yea we got a standing calf machine too.

Its pretty weird in there ask anyone where their going answer is always your house, most of the gym guys act like teenagers, w/ all sorts of wack freindly dissing going on. Its pretty humorous at times.

Everyone pretty much knows everyone else at the gym, if you leave everyone asks where you going, of course you say your house.

always tell people to leave there squat weights on because your doing shoulder press, (no one squats very hardcore but its still way to much to shoulder)

Always tell people you don't lift weights never ever even while your doing your lifts.

when certain guys bench 185-245 its considered 3x-20x there body weight because there "obviously" etheopien.

Who you running from jonny? your house (default answer to most questions)
Well run on back there and fix the roof mow the lawn and tar the driveway.

We've got this one guy that drinks like a mainiac does 10-15 hours cardio a week and lift (supposedly heh) 3x a week though you rearely ever see him lift, hes a real piece of work damn funny.

We always offer him a spot on his cardio, we know how dangerous it can be.

If you see him lifting your in the wrong gym, drunk or dreaming.

2 page poem on the wall about jonny and his cardio and booze,

newpapers brought in w/ peoples names and locations (always changed to your house) changed to that of gymmembers.

all sorts of things mad strange place I guess only small town gyms can end up like that

FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE BITCHING ABOUT YOUR GYMS- TRUST ME YOU GOT IT BETTER THAN I DO. MY GYM IS 70% GAY, AND THE MUSIC IS LIKE BEING AT A GAY CIRCUIT PARTY(CAUSE THAT'S WHERE THEY GET 1/2 OF THE TAPES THEY PLAY FROM).

NOTHING LIKE BEING CRUISED BY A FLAMER WHILE YOUR TRYING TO DO LEG PRESSES!!!!!!
