Wellbutrin aka Zyban & Anavar

Temple

New member
I was going to wait to post this until I was absolutely sure but I would like some input from MS, W6 or anyone else who would like to comment.
I have taken Ttokkyo anavar in the past with no problems, in fact I felt very calm while on it almost like an antidepressant. I have been on Wellbutrin since October and recently tried to do a cycle of Lloeffler Anavar 5mg/d. Within 24 hours of taking the var I have had what can only be described as full blown panic attacks, can't eat, can't sleep so I stopped the var and within a day or so I am back to normal. I have been on and off the var 4 times each with the same result. At first I thought that perhaps the TT was not var or the Lloeffler I got wasn't real var but then it occured to me that maybe there was an interaction between the Wellbutrin and the anavar as that was the only thing different other than the brand that I was using. I stopped taking the Wellbutrin on Sat. and took half a tab of the anavar today. So far I feel a tad jittery but nothing like what I was feeling before. The real test will come when I take the other half tab tonight.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
What is the half life of wellbutrin? Does anyone know why there would be an adverse reaction between the two drugs? Is it possible that when the two are combined the result is some sort of panic/anxiety disorder. MS told me that any AAs can cause that response but since I have not experienced it before I have to think that it is related to the wellbutrin.
I'll keep everyone posted on how this goes. At first I thought perhaps there was some sort of reverse placebo effect going on but I was very suprised when I started having problems as I had none in the past.

I am currently on Loeffler var -- 10 mgs a day (split am/pm). While I cannot say I have had panic attacks, I can say that I feel more emotion at times. Not overreactionally emotional, just seemingly get weepy during a tv program (sorry it was about newborn puppies!), and a bit, hmmm, oversensitive to something that would not normally bother me. Not to say that I have exhibited this emotion outwardly. I had not considered it was the var -- just a mere coincidence.

And I know my Loeffler is real, as I had it tested. Please keep us updated.

AAS and WellButrin both basically have dopaminergic/norandronergic effects. The translation of this is that either one of them alone (in excess) can cause the symptoms you've described. Combining them may mean that you're getting a double boost. I suggest you either drop the WellButrin completely for the duration of your cycle, or at least cut back on it.

I am soooo glad to hear that there is a reason that was happening other than I am just nuts LOL. My doctor wanted me on the wellbutrin for a year after I stopped smoking but I really feel like I will be fine without it so I am not going to go back on it and will continue with the anavar. I was on the max dose recommended for the wellbutrin so I am sure that adding the var was definitely overkill.

That's right. Wellbutrin works through the Dopamine pathway rather than other antidepressants that are SSRI's. I have used anti-depressants for anxiety/stress/panic for the last 3 years and have found wellbutrin to work the least. I used Zoloft with great success but the sexual side effects were the harshest. Celexa was the next best as an SSRI. Wellbutrin for the last year has been just o.k.

MS - another ?
Winny did not interact with the wellbutrin the way that the anavar did. Do different AAS have different dopaminergic effects?

No one knows for sure Temple. In theory I would expect the more androgenic AAS to have more of a CNS stimulant effect. But the way that androgens behave in the brain is quite different to thier effects in the periphery, so it is possible that Anavar has more CNS activity than winny. Or you may have had an 'odd' batch of winny or Anavar, or you may just be an oddball. EVERYONE is different and if you can't handle Anavar plus Wellbutrin then don't take them together. There is no way to predict an individual's response to these drugs.

Some people are very much more prone to panic attacks for whatever reason. If you also have problems with yohimbine and panic attacks, this is a clear signal to moderate or avoid these kinds of stimulants.

1) Are you sure the var isn't clen or some other stimulant?

2) Wellbutrin has stimulant effects and decreases seizure threshold. Many AAS have anti-depressant effects, the mechanisms are not clear but certainly involve one or more neurotransmitter systems and may also lower seizure threshold as corticosteroids do.

3) It is a complex drug and alters hepatic metabolism.

4) Half-life of parent drug is 21 hrs, but there are several active metabolites with longer half-lives and unknown properties. Steady-state takes 8 days.

I'd say there is a good likelyhood of an interaction here particularly with a high end dose of wellbutrin. Give the wellbutrin at least a week or two to clear the system.
