Weight training in the evening - is a post workout shake enough?

I do my work-out at about 8.00pm. Straight after that I'll have the typical Whey protein (30g) and hi gi carb (50g) shake. After that I do not eat anything else before going to bed. Is that okay for growth, or should I eat something else later on?

You should be having a 2nd meal as well w/clean carbs and lean protein, as that liquid meal is used up within 45 mins, leaving your body starving for more. (On a cellular level, even though you may not "feel" it) Just my .02 from experience on myself and those I counsel.

i agree with swole
i have my pw shake at 9pm as soon as i finsih working out
then an hour later i have Clean carbs with protein.. about 30-50gms of carbs depending on how hard i felt i trained, usually oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice or pasta
and a serving of veggies or salad

i have been feeling better for this recovery wise, as for the body composition, well i can stll see my abs :) (infact they look harder!)

i have trouble eating at times after my late workouts and if i cant get a real meal in after my workout i will compromise and have 2 - servings of milk with a good protein blend so that would give me some more carbs from lactose which is not perfect by any means but is better than nothing and the long lasting proteins will help me last through the nite...

Thanks for the replys.

I'll start eating another meal about 45 mins after my post workout shake.

The only problem is that this extra meal would be literally just before I go to sleep. I didn't think that was such a good idea (especially having the carbs so late at night).

just make sure it is good low gi complex carbs not sugar ...

not all carbs are created equal
