what efects do water retention have when you get your bf checked in a water tank? im thinking water is heavier than fat so????? anyways i want to go get it checked its been a couple months but im holding a lil water right now witch i dont really mind but if i need to shed it jus to go get tested acuratly then i will...

I don't know. What I do know is that a DEXA scan is more accurate, and gives you can complete body composition analysis right down to specific body parts. As an added bonus, you get a bone density value as well.

How much do those run?

Hmmm sounds out of reach for me, I'll google around tho n check it out.... I feel lucky enough jus to have a water tank available..

So maybe water retention doesn't even matter or has a very small effect??? Anyone else?

Bump! U may have seen my other post were I said I lost 4lbs lbm, but I'm
second guessing these readings... My strength has been increasing and I just don't see the loss??? So again
how much can the readings be off due to water retention or other factors? What can I do prior to testing to make sure it's acurate? Maybe I just don't want to believe I lost 4lbs of muscle lol

So for a 17 year old in Kalifornia I wonder if the insurance would cover it? Seems like a really useful thing.

I guess they wouldn't, unless you have a bone problem. They do a dexa scan if you have calcium rejection problems, kidney stones, and/or early osteoporosis. My wife had one at Simi Adventist Hospital earlier this year, and it was about $250 cash. You have to say you have no insurance, and ask what the cash patient price is when you call.

ALSO IMPORTANT! You need to have a doctor order the test, and you need the doctor to include bf %. The dexa scan comes in many types, and if you have one to check for bone density, it might not include bf % in the report.

Cool thanks. Guess it's not happening for me. I'm tired of my body fat scale and it's inaccuracies though:(
