too much work on chest, or not enough?

When I usually workout on my chest, I usually do like 5 - 6 different excercises..

1)flatbench press - 5x5

2)smith machine incline. 3x8

3) dumbell benchpress. 3x8

4) incline dumbell flyes. 3x8

5) hammerstrengh benchpress . 3x8

6) incline dumbell press . 3x8

is this too much?

That's one workout?!?

A complete chest routine is:
1-2 sets of weighted dips
1-2 sets of incline press (BB or DB, whatever)

-casualbb

That is way too much volume bro.. thats how i used to train when I was young... bad idea... now I do something along these lines

3-5 sets of 5 on incline barbell bench
2 sets 8-10 flat dumbell bench press
2 sets 8-10 dumbell pullovers

Thats it... My chest has grown a ton in the last 6 months

Too much!!

What about your leg routine? I hope you are putting the same type of effort in your leg training.

You need to stimulate your chest enough so that you can add weight the next workout. Most people overestimate this amount way too much, and ANNIHILATE their recovery. You never need more than 3 sets for chest, PERIOD.

That said, I recommend either of the following:

DC training style - Essentially ONE SET of a pressing movement done with very high intensity. Check the sticky out.

When I'm not doing DC, I do something like this:

Hammer chest press or dip - 2 x 8
Incline Press - 1 x 12

Or sometimes just 3 sets of hammer chest press and no incline. I don't really subscribe to the upper chest theory.

I have to agree with Debaser on this.

I would recommend performing 3 light warmup sets (10,5,3)

Then 1 all-out set for each chest workout.

I would also include a 3 exercise rotation:

incline presses, flat presses, and parallel dips.

Keeping a variety will prevent stagnation in gains and will promote increases in growth and strength.

lol.. when I do 3 or 4 exercises, I dont feel the soreness compared to doing 5 or 6..

Yah, I do my legs as well..

This looks a lot better!! However, I would ditch the cable flyes. . .you really don't need them. Good luck with your training.

Still way too much. Like I said, you do not need more than 3 sets TOTAL. For your entire chest.

I have killer soreness from doing 1 set. If you need all that to get sore, you are simply not working hard enough.
