I think I took them to low, cause they killed my elbows. I brought them about 4 inches from my chest. I was also doing them with my index finger right up next to the smooth part: Is that too close?

Do you guys go 1/2 way or 3/4 way down?

How far is your grip?

I think I may have made it too much extension and not enough of a press.

Help a homely man out :)
 
Yes, you are right, you did take them too low.

You don't need to take a JM press lower than 1/2 of the way down.

If the JM press starts looing like a close grip bench then it's too low.

If you think that you are coming down too low than you probably are. Your hand with the index on the smooth is ok.
 
Dude everyone i knwo does them differently. I bring them with in 6 inches of my chest then as it comes down it goes back toward my neck, i them lift my head up and touch my chin to the bar. I know mine arent 100% correct. But i have never see n anyone do them the same. I think the only way to really find out is to have JM Blakely do them himself so we can see!
 
Thanks guys, I will be hitting them again next week. I imagine the weights should go up nicely and elbows will feel alot nicer with less ROM.

BTW-arch back bent legged good mornings are up 20lbs, and floor press is up 10lbs since I last tested about 5 weeks ago. I'm loving this methodology. I am dieting and getting stronger, and I'm clean right now! Who knew?
