the big haney shrugs for shoulders

Are the Haney shrug effective to develop your shoulders and build bigger and higher upper traps?
I've seen guys at the gym doing this movement, I usually do front shrugs, but I haven't seen much changes so far on my traps and shoulders.

Haney shrugs, or barbell shrugs where you hold the bar behind your body instead of infront are a great exercise for targeting the lower traps. They are not as effective as regular shrugs where the barbell is held infant of your body for targeting the upper traps.

My favourite form of shrugs are dumbbell shrugs. You have the best range of motion and can really squeeze the peak contraction at the top of the movement and get a good stretch at the bottom of the movement. I recommend trying that on your next shoulder workout.

nobody ever talks about cleans, they are the most effective exercise to build truly strong and huge traps.

little skinny bodybuilders are obsessed with standing in front of mirrors and mirin' themselves too much doing shrugs but the old school ways work 10X better but people are too lazy to do cleans cause they will wipe you out fast

I usually rotate the kind of shruggs I do. For a month I will do behind the back shruggs, for another month I will do front shruggs, and on a third ocassion I do dumbell shruggs.

However, in the end of the day, everyone should choose the exercises that work best for them. For instance, my brother hates the shruggs, since they do not work for him. So you have to find what works best for you.

Its a good alternative to be honest, but I usually do it in the smith machine as my ass gets in the way

This big inmate showed me a move I dubbed the "prison move". It gets the traps and strangley, the upper pecs. You sit with a pair of dumbells at your sides. Bring the bells up, over your legs and lightly touch them together. It sounds stupid, but it works and feels like nothing I've ever done before.

I like to do barbell shrugs just because you can put a ridiculous amount of weight on the bar. Besides that though, there are a lot of guys who do not even work traps directly. You can hit them different ways as well.
