speaking about chest....

I read the post earlier concerning best chest excercises.... I left a question but no reply...

So I will ask again..

Since I am have a very small frame and small chest... I am very interested in techniques that I have not used.

A freind of mine told me to do pullovers to expand my ribcage. The problem is he is telling me on hearsay.

What I am looking for is responses from people who have used this excercise and if their results were positive or negative. Theory I regret will not suffice.

Thanks again

Ya, I have heard this as well. It seemed to make sense since the tissue that holds your ribs together is cartilage. I have also read this is a farce. That you cannot expand your chest doing pull-overs or any other exercise. -Bump-

This statement is ridiculous.

A fully grown human cannot expand their ribcage artificially. Simple biology and physiology will prove this.

This is a false statement that started back in the 70's with Arnold and the gang.

Unfortunately, if you have a small bone structure and frame, there is only so much SIZE you can put on. This is why genetics plays such an important role in professional bodybuilding.

Pull Overs will add some muscle to the entire Pec area as well as the oblques/ribcage area.

They are quite effective however, if you are looking to put mass onto the chest and make it yourself look bigger than you are, you should simply stick to the major compound movements.

Heavy Barbell Bench Press' with GREAT INTENSITY is the way to go!

This may sound like a 'dime a dozen' tip you see in muscle mags, but I did it and I swear I saw a different kind of growth that I hadn't seen before albeit subtle but this will definetily work!

In between chest exercises, go find a straight upright metal pole and put your back to it, feet and legs staight. Interlace your fingers and wrap them behind the pole with your arms straight then lean forward until you fill a 'pulling' at the outter sides of your chest. You should then stretch slowly but intensly by squeezing your shoulder blades inward like towards each other back and forth 5 or 10 times. I did this twice during my once per week chest workout and noticed an expanding of my chest within 3 weeks I swear to god!

It was originally a tip in muscle media I dont' know which issue. you gots nothin' to lose bro!

Thanks... I will try anything and will incorporate this into my routine...

J.C. Hise developed this 'excercise' to be used in combination with his heavy breating squat program in the 1930's. Does it work? I don't know. Can you increase the size of your rib cage? If your under 25, then yes POSSIBLY. The last epiphyeses to close are usually the ribs and clavicles in typical males. There are studies which show increase ribcage circumpherence in previously untrained subjects that undergone a high intensity cardiovascular program.

You mean the serratus/rib cage area not the obliques. As well it is also a good lat exercise and some(myself included) use it for this purpose rather than for chest.(although back in the day I did do it for chest)

Stick to the basics bro. BTW - If you really have trouble building your pecs drop the barbells and pick up some dumbells. Dumbells are superior in that they allow for a fuller range of motion and contration at the top. Barbells, although good as well, are overated as a GREAT chest builder. I feel it's use for power and strrength are better than for overall muscle growth. Try adding dips with your elbows flared out as well. Great chest builder at the same time adding good thickness to your tri's.
