Shady schools make big bank in recession

10"? In sixth grade maybe.

All bullshit aside, education and health care are my two hot-button issues. It's criminal and disgraceful what we've done in both of these areas.

i guess...personally i had great teachers, really can't name one super terrible one. high graduation rate, lotsa peeps went on to do good things, etc.
and that's some small random michigan town...but the teachers were paid pretty good compared to other states, and they had higher standards.
looking back it really shows, cause like i said, all my teachers were at the least competent but mostly they excelled.

You'll be losing your mind once you see what schools are like now. Just have a kid and see what they bring home. It's a nightmare.

oh and, our school district has actually shit-canned a couple of teachers (almost unheard of) in the last couple of years, because they just plain sucked.

That's fantastic.

But step back and take a moment to assess something: You're acting excited and surprised that teachers that sucked can actually be fired. That's a testament to how out-of-control the system has become.

1) We use certification processes (that vary by state) to restrict the number of available teachers.

2) Then we use tenure to give them what amounts to lifetime employment.

3) Then we use an arcane combination of state and union rules to make it almost impossible to fire them.

4) Then we prevent competition from other sources of education. Parents can take their money elsewhere to private schools, but they have to double-pay for both public and private education.

But wait... children are our top priority! They are our future.
