Shady schools make big bank in recession

look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

I know... I know... that "with the degree comes the certification" thing got me teed-off. Now excuse me while I go explain the central limit theorem to a high school honors teacher who just thinks it has got something to do with that bell-shaped thingamajig.

might not like it, but its completely true. an english major can take 7 or 8 education classes and be certified to teach k through 12 language arts. thats 100% fact. what issues you have with facts i dont know. for someone who hands out certifications as a side job to running the northern hemisphere, you act like what i said is wrong and its simply not. sorry, chemical engineering isnt in most middle or high schools so your doctorate, though a great accomplishment and something i would be extremely proud of, doesnt mean you are all knowing and should be able to teach whatever you like.

and if you are so despondent about public education, why have anything to do with it? its private sector douchebags (this is a rant and not directed at plunkey) who have lost their jobs and want to attack education because their industry got outsourced and they are angry. be part of the solution, not the problem. its not the teachers fault they took a low salary position with great benefits and job security so all of you crybabies can sit here and bitch about them when youre making 6 figure salaries with investment plans bringing in tons more. oh wait, no one was bitching until they lost their jobs and now they want to hurt their peers who made a decision to live on less in exchange for benefits. what a shame. people take huge up front payouts and when your ship sinks, attack those who decided to invest in their future rather than right now.

only in america can a society shit on the people who prepare THEIR children for the future. and if 1 in 10 teachers is shit, that doesnt mean the other 90% dont work their asses off. do some fucking parenting and instill some morals in YOUR kids and quit dropping the role of parent on teachers. americans are a joke. selfish scumbags. talk shit about their soldiers and their teachers. its truly unbelievable. its bullshit like this that makes tenured teachers turn around and say fuck you kids, fuck you parents, im doing just enough to skate and there isnt a fucking thing any of you can do about it. like any job, anyone can figure how to do enough to get by without problems. alittle support goes along way. americans should figure that out before its too late. i couldnt see why anyone would want to become a teacher anymore. i know i wouldnt want to be surrogate daddy to some shithead whose parents could give a fuck about homework and projects until their kid fails and then its the teachers fault. laughable.

oh and, a lot of my opinions are as a result of observations i have made. . .i have a fair amount of contact with my local school district through my children, my relationships with people within the school district and a couple of civic organizations that i serve on. . .and i see my local school district as "typical" thus, i see it as a microcosm of the u.s. primary and secondary education systems. . .also, over the years, i have had contact with quite a few foreign exchange students from various countries (mostly european but also, asia and south america) and i was astonished on a number of occassions of these kids aspirations in life. . .for example, the last exchange student that my wife's parents had was from germany (my mother-in-law is an immigrant and is still quite "german" so, they had a number of european exchange students over the years), this girl was (by my estimation) quite gifted (academically speaking), she had one year of secondary education to complete when she returned to germany and she was already enrolled in and completing classwork in a nursing program. . .i asked her why she didn't consider being a doctor, she said she "wasn't allowed". . .she was interested in the health field, and that (the nursing program) was what she was directed toward. . .and when i say "directed toward", i mean, someone told her (in so many words) that, this was the "highest rank to which she was allowed to aspire" in that particular field. . .even though she was a very advanced student, somewhere along the line, the caste-system pigeonholed her as only having certain "capabilities". . .that's just one example, but it was a pretty common thing with many of the exchange students that i have gotten to know over the years. . .you can't compare our educational system to one like that. . .it's apples and oranges.

anyway. . .that's where my opinion comes from. . .i'm hardly omniscient :lmao: . . .nah, i just keep my eyes and ears open and i ask questions when i don't understand something (which is quite frequently, i assure you :) )

Wow! that's interesting. Where do they come up with stuff that were' lagging behind in
science, and math. That's all I been hearing lately!

We plenty of really smart kids in the US. The problem is the results the smart kids achieve are watered down since all kids, smart or dumb, are lumped into the same pool of schools (public only). As was mentioned already, if the US had a caste system our kids would be at the top of the rankings like everyone else. But we dont, and thankfully so, since our world ranking is based on what we contribute to the world economically.

Which underscores my original point. The certification does not come with the degree, it comes on top of the degree. And with the exception of math, the degrees don't necessarily need to be linked. I can get a degree in English, do the extra certification, then go teach Social Studies. So no, the degree and the certification do not come together (with the exception of mathematics).

And this is one of the fundamental problems in education today. We value artificial certifications more than we do making sure people we have people who actually know what they're talking about. They're more concerned that a teacher can address little Johnny's self-esteem issues than making sure he can actually read a book.

I don't, I'd never trust my kids to public education. The one kid I have stuck there is a disaster.

Let's go with your 90% figure, although I think the number of public school teachers who work their asses off is much lower. The problem with the 90% is that they don't police themselves. Instead they hide behind arcane work rules and unions and resist being measured. Why not deal with the 10%? Would a source site be valid if 10% of its listing were scammers? Would a hospital be safe if 10% of its doctors were incompetent? What about a financial company -- what if 10% of its brokers actually stole their clients' investments.

Teachers need to police themselves or the 10% (or higher) will continue to take the 90% (or lower) down.

If I owned a business and 10% of my employees were worthless youd damn sure Im going to look into the matter. Payroll aint no small expense.

I understand now! Thank for breaking it down for me.
