Shady schools make big bank in recession

1) go blame companies that want degrees to siphon out the 10,000 people would go apply for a job if you didn't require a degree.

2) Would you want the president of your company, electrician, lawyer or heart surgeon to be merely a high school graduate who learned everything by reading books at home?

3) Would you hire gladiator to be your trainer?

The school's job is to teach you skills not get you jobs. When you get unemployed, do you call your university and tell them to get you a job? Does EF teach you how to lose weight and then George goes out and gets you a chick? (that'd be kewl!)

Ok, then why do graduates from normal schools have an easier time getting jobs (and less debt) than those from these tricks? Granted it's still the individual's fault for falling for their crap, but the fact they're even around at all is pathetic.

That's what really wrong with this country. There is always someone all too anxious to take advantage of a situation by doing harm to someone else.

Exactly.

Says who? I know a few electricians, lawyers, teachers, etc. struggling to find a job.

Goign to school to learn a skill that's NOT in demand is the problem. Not the school itself. If there's a demand to learn something - if that school doesn't want to teach it - someone else (maybe you) will create a school and teach those skills for them. Don't forget many unions demand oogles of certifications and degrees to limit the supply of candidates and thus keep salaries high. eg: try to become a teacher of 6 year olds in california. You need a degree for that!

Supply and Demand. Maybe you should head to school. hahahahahah! i kid bitch.

Here's what I think is hilarious:

1) Our government-run schools graduate students that can't read their own diplomas, let alone are prepared for a life skill.

2) Then they establish all these government grants and government-guaranteed loans, which the private sector then designs educational products to exploit.

3) Then once in debt and still unemployed, the government tells these people they need "hope and change". If they'll just vote for them, they'll make education more affordable and stop predatory lending practices.

We all know the obvious solution here. We need another government program. Maybe it's a program to give low-interest loans to technical school graduates to do apprenticeships with SIEU-affiliated government agencies.

really! thats unbelievable! who would think a first grade teacher should have a college degree? crazy folks if you ask me.

btw: that was the dumbest example of jobs that require a degree to be able to work. closer to ridiculously fucking moronic actually.

The college degree isn't the issue. I think what he's referring to is the teaching certificate. I can have a Ph.D. in child psychology from Harvard and not be eligible to teach inner-city first-grade children even if I'm willing to take $6,000/year.

with the degree comes the certification. when you get to middle school you are required to be highly qualified in your subject matter. that is also taken care of, in most cases, during undergrad when you major in english, history, math, science, etc. those who dont have the college certification are then required to pass a state mandated certification test. its really not a big deal. and a child psych from harvard with a phd shouldnt be allowed to teach. wtf do they know about english, history, science, etc. its like a medical doctor isnt allowed to be an electrician? but shit, hes a doctor. the american mentality of "hey i went to school, therefor i can teach because i was taught" is a fucking joke.

No, that's not true. I have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt and an MBA from Emory university. I can't go to the high school 6 miles from my house and teach the freshman algebra course.

The funny thing is, even if I went back and got my teaching certificate, I couldn't teach the mathmatics course since my college degree isn't in mathematics as well (that's a math-specific issue).

It's okay Obama will fix everything. He promised.
