Serious Inquiry about competing...

As NYM said, the sad reality is the politics of it all. After seeing the one major show in my neck of the woods last summer, I'm convinced they literally pick the winners the week before. Sometimes it seems like the organization is so 'in-bred", there's just no chance. BUT, when you are just getting started, its important to understand that the politics of whatever show you are doing is going to happen regardless of how good you look or perform. That's where you have to do it for yourself first. Given competition w/ people who have been juicing for years, are well-connected w/ other big names in the field, are in the industry or trying to get into the industry - bb / gyms / modeling -- its brutal. And I don' think there's enough money to be made for the money & effort you end up putting into it.

Definitely get to know some of the people at the shows, hang out, talk, etc. Don't get too swept away by the politics, etc. You can usually tell which shows are completely "rigged" and which ones aren't when people win who maybe shouldn't --- if you end up doing these shows, just do it w/ your own goals in mind. There are other shows, maybe smaller or in different areas that arent' quite as political that can still get you moving up the chain -- check what Level they are -- if your goal is to go National -- you can usually find a couple national qualifier shows that are maybe not as polluted as others.

I think these sorts of things you are start to notice as you spend more time around them watching & listening & talking to people.

I'm training for my second comp and what really works for me is being around people in the business. You will find that most of the guys and girls are very nice and helpful. Although I had a male trainer, I aksed girls that I knew in the business to help me add the feminine touches to my routine and posing. Good luck.
