I say ban them unless they are made of manatee hide ;)

Whiskey

The only requirement on the husband is to encourage it's use. The Qur'an does not require Muslim husbands to force it upon their wives, the decision is left to the women.

In a perfect world sure.

You don't seem to be understanding me.

I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush either. But, if a certain Muslim woman might decide she no longer wishes to wear the burkha, her husband may decide otherwise and that would likely be the final word on the matter.

^^^ this, if she choses not to wear it that's "fine" but she may not be allowed out of the house and she'll piss people off....

Maybe, but I can almost guarantee that Muslim women in that kind of relationship aren't going to a bank either, burka or not.

Regardless, in this country, I'd go as far as to say most Muslim women choose not to and are not required by their husbands to wear a burka. That's just not the average American Muslim relationship. Different may be true of Muslim relationships in other countries, but that's not what we're talking about here.

America is very diverse. If you came here to Astoria you would feel like you were in another country at times. I am being dead serious.

I didn't say those relationships didn't exist here. I said that wasn't the typical American Muslim relationship.

...and I used to live in Union Sq. I've been to Astoria plenty of times. :)

They were banned in France and I think they need to banned everywhere else. Canada has already banned it in certain respects and our trying to ban them completely.
I live in a city where there are many burqa wearing women and it saddens me to see the repression burqa represents. Women fought long and hard for freedoms in North America, and the burqa brings the women's movement back 100 yrs.
Keep in mind, it's not just the burqa; also these women are not allowed to work, get educated or go out alone. They don't have bank accounts or credit cards.

They need to keep their repression in the privacy of their own homes.
I have many close Muslim friends who agree with me, in fact, this is their opinions more than mine.

The reason why there is so much distaste for the burqa, is as humans, we don't trust what we cannot see.

pretty sure the anti-burka has a lot to do with an innate fear of surprise ninja attacks.

p.s. lartinos, if you want to follow in omega's footsteps, you'll have to get a lot weirder.

Then you know how it is.
Thanks Jackangel.. No matter what I do I could never replace such a mysterious figure such as Omega.
