Let me give you some real world example here. My brother once shot a man for breaking into his home. He was investigated, but CLEARED of doing anything wrong. He was put on administrative leave from his high security job here in Washington DC while the incident was investigated. The investigation was routine and did not presume guilt.

Point is Captain Clueless that it's their duty to follow-up to verify his story. Nothing more nothing less.
