PWO Shake question.

The Iotola

New member
After each workout and cardio session I have a PWO shake compromised of:

30% Maltodextrin
30% Dextrose
25% Hydrolyzed Whey Protein High Grade
10% Glutamine Peptides
5% Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA's)

Will having this shake yeild negitive results when cutting? Its my only real source of sugar for the day, and that insulin spike is much needed after my workouts. Feedback appreciated.

No, it won't have a negative impact.

Your overall daily calorie consumption relative to expenditure is what will make the most difference. Provided you're eating clean and lifting hard and resting enough...the PWO shake is not a "make or break" variable.

I would probably cut down on the malto at least and add a high grade isolate.

Hydrolosate is good and super fast, but remember, a hydrolyzed protein is basically pre-digested. There isn't much protein left, its basically amino acids(free form) and some small peptides.

Everyone has their own method, but my post-cardio shake usually consists of an oats/whey concentrate combination. It has yet to let me down.

40%/60% respectively.

I do my cardio right after heavy lifting, so I always thought that taking in those sugars right after my last set will be productive to combat muscle loss during cardio. Should I down the shake right after weights and before cardio? Or just ditch the entire Malto/Dex idea, and run a regular whey shake before cardio. I want to burn as much fat but dont want to loose much muscle.

How come you want EFAs following cardio? I always wondered what was good for after cardio.

I would not do EFA's right after cardio. Wait a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, and have your next scheduled, low glycemic meal. The idea is to allow fat burning to continue from your cardio session.

My thoughts on having EFA's immediately post workout is you are trying to burn endogenous fat, and if you provide exogenous fat, what is the body going to burn?

****re-read that post, laughing. Had to edit it, a bit of double speak/typing error I had in there. It was 4am when I made it. :) It is right now.
