Pulled a muscle bad today... need help

So I was at the gym about 2 hours ago and was doing the shoulder press, and on my very last set and last rep actually, I tried so hard to finish it and out of a natural reaction I turned my head to the right and I felt that shooting pain or almost like a rip in my neck muscle on the left and down between my shoulder blade... OMG I'm in so much pain I immediatly left and came home, just took a 90 min hot bath (was that bad?) and now I'm icing it and took 2 extra strength tylenols.. I don't know what to do, I can't even sit up straight or move my head to the left or down or up.. just to the right. Has anyone done this and how do I get it fixed, just time and rest? I had this same muscle pulled abou 4 months ago (prior to my working out) and it lasted about 6 weeks.. funny thing is that I had just woken up with it randomly and it lasted that long! I'm so worried because I start a new job Tuesday and this just sucks! Any advice to help would be much appreciated! Thank you. And yes I did stretch prior to todays workout, it was just my dumbass that needed to finish that set. I always push myself with all my might on my last set but never had this happen. :(

Sounds like you may have done something to your LSS, ( Levator muscle) It f'ing HURTS, I have felt the pain you described more than once.... I was confined to bed for 3 days, I couldn't even lift my head off my pillow. It actually took a month b/f it got better but it finally did. For me ice really helped so did NSAID's.

Hopefully this link will work, it will give you an idea of what muscle I'm talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levator_scapulae
I hope you feel better soon.

ok thanks. Looks like that might be it.. I have been slowly stretching my back across my fitness ball and its been helping so far. I can't be in bed 3 days or Ill miss my first day of work (that would be so embarrasing) but I just hope I dont wake up to even more pain then right now ughhhh... thanks for your help though

Hope you feel better --- start w/ the icing - it may slowly just release on its own. And ibuprofen. I don't know if this is somethign to just let heal on its own or see a massage therapist to work it out....

Good lucK!
