Problem With Squats

I have serious knee troubles. And i think they are finally starting to give in. I dropped my warm up set of squats today.

I dont want to hurt myself anymore... I dont want any more knee problems down the road.

I have found that the Hammer Strength Squat machine doesn't hurt my knees at all. Will this suffice if i can't do regular squats?

I don't want to be a pussy, but i also want to be able to walk without a limp. Should i gut it up or stick with the hammer strength?

You need to make sure that there is nothing majorly wrong with your knees first...then decide a few things.

What are you doing that is making your knees hurt? Why does the hammer strength squat machine not hurt your knees? Are you warming up properly?

I have personally worked with several people who have had bad knee problems when doing squats and had them do box squats for several weeks and their knee pain went away. The main difference is that the knee does not go fwd when squatting on a box.

I do not suggest any machine, unless there is NO alternative.

Strengthen your hams, a lot of back and knee problems may well be the result of weak hams.

Try box squatting for a month or so, light, like I do speed squats maybe.

Do high rep negatives only on the leg extension. If your right knee is hurting you, then put 10lbs on the machine and use your left leg to raise it and your right knee to lower it. Do a few sets of 10-20 reps.

You can also take ibuprofen before you workout to keep the inflamation down.

Hope this helps.

Ever since i started playing Rugby when i was little, my knees had always bothered me. I tore my ACL playing Rugby, now i just concentrate on bodybuilding. To add to the problem last year i got into a fight and threw a guy thre a sliding glass door... I followed him right through it and a peice of glass went through my knee and added to my problems.

I'm not a powerlifter, I'm not lifting so much for strength rather I lift for Bodybuilding. I want to compete amateur by the time i am 21.

I think the hammer strength is easier on my knees because the platform is at an angle. Other than that I can't explain it. BUt it still get as sore and torn from that as i did when i could squat normally.

The fact is that my knee is killing me and i dropped my warm up set at 225.

I dont know what to do. I want to do regular squats, but i also want to be able to walk without a limp and without hurting badly.

I still suggest box squats, especially since you can tax the body with weights and take the stress off of the knees.

Was your first set with 225? I hope that you did several other warm ups, especially since you have knee problems.

I believe that Louie Simmons said that most knee problems are caused by they way that we walk and how we hold our feet when we do so. Make sure that they are always pointed straight ahead.
