PR GM & still not happy

Following a meet I stopped Westside and just did GM's 5x5 eod or whenever, very slowly adding weight. Did some rowing and benching as well. So last week I finally decided to go for a max good morning and ended up with an ugly 245 single when two months ago I could triple that. Yesterday I tried it again and got a not-so-ugly 285 single, a 20lbPR. Now, I'm happy about that PR obviously, but, as you can see, I'm really weak in my goodmornings. I can deadlift 480 yet I can only GM 285 and squat 350. I'm really okay with it as long as my deadlift keeps going up but concerned nevertheless. Why isn't my GM higher? Why the 200lb difference in my lifts? Is it possible that I'm neglecting a muscle group or something? Could this be what is keeping my squat down as well?

Depeding on the kind of GM you're doing, that might be normal.

My 44" power stance (squat stance) arched back GM **in other words, the GM that is most like my squat** is 430 x 1, but standing, or 36" rounded back, and the other variations are a different story...much lower, sometimes half as much as I deadlift or less.

So how do you squat, how do you deadlift, and how do you GM (stance, distance, etc)?

Height also plays a role in what your chain suspended gm numbers are like...if it is a fixed 36 or 44".

I don't do suspended chain GM's. My gym won't allow it. I just take the bar out of the rack set myself up as if to squat (wide stance) but GM-it instead. I deadlift conventional.

I do think that I'm doing round back GM's (though not on purpose) but since, I train without a partner, I really can't tell that well.

you know dude i think your ok......... i have about a 150lb difference in my gm and my deadlift/squat. And after listening to Spatts and B fold i have come up with one conclusion. You can use a lot more weight with Chain Suspended gm's compared to the standard. I squat a little over 400 and deadlift around 450......... but my best gm was 315 last saturday with not so perfect form. but when you just set the bar where you want it and only do the positive your body seems to handle more weight. So dont worry, i believe your ok.

witha chain suspended there is no eccentric which at a heavy weight becomes increasingly difficultbecause all you have is your abs to stop the weight. I can only free standing GM 405 which is a long way away from my sq/dl. with a chain you also can have more leverage and use your ass and hips morelike a squat. Hope that makes you feel better
