Powerlifting Diet

I am not a competitive powerlifter, but I train more or less like a powerlifter for football and I am looking for some diet advice. I am 5'11" and a good playing weight for me is around 235.....I can get much heavier, but I am too slow with the added bodyfat, and I can get lighter too, but it tends to make me weak and leave me feeling depleted, I see p-lifters who look hard and lean, and they obviously are strong, so I was wondering what kind of a diet you guys would advise......expecially guys in the 242's around my height......thanks a lot.
 
Generally a powerlifter is not all that lean or into getting lean.

I suggest that you get J.M. Blakely's new book on weight manipulation. He goes up and down weight classes like a yo yo on purpose and he is a big boy benching 700+. He is advertising his book in an upcoming issue of PowerMag Magazine. He sent me one to review for him and it is good. J.M. is a great writer.

is JM's book aimed at powerlifters trying to make a weight class? or does it have solid weight loss help for powerlifters, who dont want to lose pounds off thier lift.

Cause im not interested in spending money on a book that tells me how to drop 5 pounds with drastic measures just to be put back on later in the day.

I read his article in powerlifting USA (cant remember which month i think july) where he talks about cramming in candy bars and things like that........i couldnt believe it at first, and nobody i know did either.
It was a very straight up article...i like his style.
 
I think that depends on the weight class......
I know one or two of the big lifters in this country.....those who compete below 220 are pretty lean.

I guess what I should have asked is if powerlifters follow a special diet during training, and if so, does anybody have an example? Certainly powerlifting has its share of sloppy physiques, which is just fine because it is not a physique show, but there are guys like Ed Coan, Chris Confessore, Glen Ghabot, Ted Arcidi, John Inzer and a host of others who look pretty damn solid.............As far as crash diets are concerned anybody can starve themselves for 3 days and drop 20 lbs of water only to put it back on in another 3 days....I was talking more i nterms of staying strong and solid withoug the excess blubber.
 
It is not about last minute weight dropping for weigh in. J.M. goes up and down like 50 pounds. It is the only book I know of written by a powerlifter that knows the importance of not losing strength and is about cutting weight. And since he does go up and down many weight classes a year and benches 700+ he is pretty knowledgeable. Besides him I don't know of any other guide that would be good for you.

Hey where can I get that book on JM's weight manipulation is there a website or a certain store that sells it. This might be what I've been looking for, just can't find it. Thanx to anyone who knows.
