Post Workout Meal

Temple

New member
I usually eat 1 hour or less before working out
example
2eggs 6 whites
2 slices whole grain toast
1 c skim milk
My workout takes about 45 min - 1 hour and I am going heavy low reps
What do I nead post workout as I am still full from the previous meal? I have tried eating it earlier but with a family it just doesn't seem to work out that way very often.

Not sure what you're doing..

Im not sure if you are trying to build muslce or loose fat, but if its fat you want to loose you should try eating three hours before training or first thing in the morning on an empty stomach - it burns more fat than training when your tummy is full of food. As for a post workout meal I usually eat a portion of carbs and a portion of protein eg something like 1 Skinless chicken breast with some brown rice or a slice of whole wheat toast with fat free cottage cheese.

Met-Rx or equiv. post workout is fine if you're still full. The fat in that pre-workout meal is slowing digestion. Wouldn't worry about burning fat. The amt of carbs is low plus the eggs will not cause much of an insulin response, plus the first few heavy sets will shut down what response there is.

If I ate that meal before heavy legs, it'd be in the toilet within minutes after starting my workout. Don't know how you do it. I'd need 2-3 hours minimum.

Not sure if you need any other comments once you've heard from W6 ;) but for my .02 cents worth I like Muscle Meals for post workout. It's not real thick so you can "pound" it pretty easily and it seems to sit well in my gut.

Thanks everyone
W6 - That is the only meal I can eat that close to heavy legs and not puke and still have the energy for the workout. I guess what I was kind of questioning is because of the slow absorbtion, low insuling response yada yada Am I benefiting that much from the post workout protein shake as the meal is still running thru my system. Am I just totally screwing up by eating that soon before the workout.
