Possible to do too much Cardio?

Profile

New member
Hey there,

Looking to lose some of this 18% bodyfat, and fast.

Just wondering if it's possible to do too much cardio? My wife and I go first thing in the morning, and do about 30-45 minutes of intense cardio. I am also thinking of going in the evening, while the kids are swimming, for about the same intense cardio workout.

Common sense tell me the more cardio the better, but sometimes common sense is wrong :) I want to lose this bodyfat fast, think this will help along with a good diet? Or can too much cardio can be a bad thing?

thanks

Too much cardio will result in as much muscle loss as fat. The end result being that you will lose weight, even lower your bf%. But you will not look any better, just smaller.

Gotta focus more on diet than amount of cardio you do.

What do you mean by "intense" cardio? If you can't hold a conversation while you're doing cardio you should drop the intensity. My rope-wrangling friend is right...... you will look like shit if all you do is a ton of cardio. Stick to the morning.

Building muscle compliments losing fat. Lean mass burns calories all day long. Hit the weights. Losing fat is like unrapping a package to show off whats underneath. What are you gonna do when the package is gone, and there's nothing there? Build muscle.

Drink a lot of water. Over a gallon a day. Up your protein.

Moderate cardio
clean diet
Tons of water

Good luck

If you do too much cardio eventually our body will respond by lowering your metabolism during specific times thru the day to make up for the energy lost...which obviously would be horrible. So yes, there is such a thing.

That is exactly what I mean! I was on the bike the other day, and it was so intense that I could hardly breathe during parts of it or when it was all over, and I definitely wasn't looking for any conversation. Same thing for today. By intense I mean at least 90% effort starting after I was warmed up. I guess I was just too impatient, and thought the harder I work on my cardio, the quicker the fat will go away. But I see I could have been very wrong.

Thanks man. Yea, I have been drinking PLENTY of water. That is all I drink, except a few cups of coffee in the morning, ice tea when we go out to dinnner (which isn't much), and some grape juice after the workout with 1 heaping teaspoon of creatine mixed in. But 95% of my daily fluid is water. I know I need to add some milk in there somewhere. I quit cigs and at the same time replaced my daily six pack of soda's with water about 8 months ago.

I don't want to bulk like the major body builders, I just want to be cut, and in better shape with less body fat. I know I am already in the right direction by changing my diet, and by working out. My diet and post-workout meal still needs work, I am not eating any fatty foods, just healthy cooked foods, but I need to keep better track of the daily intake totals. Thanks again man. All of 'ya.

If you want to cup up- you hav to hav muscle to cut up- if already have enough, great......

Common sense should NOT tell you more is better- that is a principle from econmics, not proper physical training. Too much is not better than enough.

Weight training is far more effective as a tool for weight managment than excessive cardio. There are a lot of studies and articles on this. Good luck!
