Poland Syndrom?

My left pec is a little smaller than my right and it's also much weaker. As a result, I have never been able to Bench more than 265 lbs. for a 1 rep max because my left pec holds me back.

I've done some research online and I believe I have a mild form of Poland Syndrom. Poland Syndrom is when a person is born with either no pec or very little, sometimes missing a rib (in women one breast is noticably smaller than the other).

I told two doctors my theories and both believe I must have torn my left pec at one point and it healed wrong; but if I tore a muscle wouldn't I have known?

Anyway, my question is what can I do to increase the size and strength of my left pec?

This is just a suggestion seeing as I dont know much but dont you think isolation work on your left peck would bring it up to par with your right in both size and in strength? I mean if you just work dumbells curls with your left arm you would think it would grow and get stronger at a faster rate then your right. So maybe specific pec work with a dumbell for your left peck would be the answere. Sounds pretty basic to me. Good luck with it. Cheers!

yeah agreed. try some DB Pressing and do as many with your right arm as you can with your left.

You can't be born without a pec. If you did you would not be able to really move your arm at all. How long have you been lifting? Alot of people including myself when they first start lifting have one pec bigger then the other just from not being used as much in day to day life, thus it is weaker.

Wrong and Wrong! YES, you can be born without a pec, infact they gave the disorder a name "Poland Syndrome" (its not a coincidence thats the name of this thread) And YES, if you have it you can still move your arm! cheers!

My apologies. Just looked it up guess it is such a thing. I still am uncertain how you can be missing a major muscle COMPLETELY and still be able to function normally.

i highly doubt your missing a pec?? mine is missing and hand is a lot smaller, arm is 7 inches shorter and hand was webbed, belive me,you can be born completley without a pec with no musscle there whatsoever . poland syndrome effects everyone differently ,a bit like weights not doing much to that flabby back of yours

Wow this thread if getting intense...

If you were born without the pec I'm guessing you wouldn't be benching 265 or would have totally jacked up your RTC in doing so. Maybe just a muscle imbalance like we see with the traps when deadlifting over time with a reverse grip? I would try the single arm DB presses, and also make sure you are pulling the bar apart when benching...the bench press is not meant to be a chest exercise persay.

Keep it civil in here or I close it!
This is learning for all of us so dont dice on each other because of personal opines.
