Nutritional info for yams

So after thinking that yams are unavailable here, I find a local Asian supermarket that sells frozen yams.... Great!
But now I am confused as to their nutritional info.

One type is called a 'taro yam' - contains 38 calories and 8g carbs per 100g.
The other type is called a 'purple yam' - contains 25 calories and 4g carbs per 100g.

I thought this was a bit low, so I went to www.calorieking.com which says that a yam should contain 118 calories and 28g of carbs per 100g! :worried: What the?!

QUESTION: Are 'taro yams' and 'purple yams' the same complex carb, low GI vegetable that is so often referred to on this site? If not, how are they different from 'regular' yams? If so, what quantity should I be using per meal? (In the meals which I have carbs and feel like sweet potato, I use 200g)

I have no knowledge on yams. The only time I have ever tried one was when I was in Singapore, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It depends if you're talking raw or cooked yams

For raw one it's about 30g carbs / 100g

So the yams I bought are obviously the wrong ones...

After typing the last post I figured there must be different types of yams (just as there are with regular potatoes), so I did some research and found that the only yam grown in the US is also known as the 'AIR-POTATO'. Is this the yam I should be looking for???

Yams aren't grown here and they don't sell them in grocery stores, so I may have to try my luck at an international wholesaler.
