I agree, every month is pretty much white history month, so having one designated as black is fine with me. Its good to celebrate all cultures, we should treat all equally though, and shorten it down to a week per color.
But that is precisely the problem...in fact it is a form of racism.
Think about it, if both colors are truly and respectably equal why the heck designate a special month to celebrate and value a black month?
The fact that the white population has to deploy such tactic to appreciate other minority is a true sign of the deeply embedded roots of racism.
I think this is call 'reverse discrimination' whose form is more subtle, more in the line with the 20th century form of modern racism.
Why would anyone care of there was a black history month? Or a purple or a polka dot? How can you possibly be offended by something like that??
Gawd.
It's like people are constantly SEARCHING to be offended by something so they can open their mouths and complain. That goes for everyone, regardless of race.
just let people live for crying out loud.
if gays want to get married, fucking let them
if blacks want a mont dedicated to their ancestry, fucking great.
people need to learn to STFU. including me so TTYL
Whether yellow, black or white Each and every man's the same inside Ooh, It takes every kind of people To make what life's about... (so true Mr. Palmer)
To be honest , It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to myself either. The goal of African Americans is to go to geneaology site on the internet and abroad in America and attempt to trace your history back to your country of origin. African tribes such as Tutsis , Hutus and Zulus, or OGeechee consider themselves just as different as Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian, or Vietnamese in an asian sense. But there's no asian history month...
Even is 2005 we still have these very infantile means of classifying people. Its like kids with crayons and coloring book trying to get a foothold on the situation
Actually May is Asian/Pacific American history month in America
Never noticed I guess... but atleast that a little mor specific that "black" history month
