No Powerlifting Allowed

30 years ago I went to a gym in Florida to sign up. When I looked around the gym I thought something was a little wierd. They had no bench press benches, squat racks, machines or BARBELLS! All they had was rack after rack of dumbells. I asked the guy what was up with that. (This was some kind of new chain of fitness clubs that was trying to launch nationally.) He said it was company policy not to have barbells "'cuz they are bad for you." Same with machines. The only thing that was good was dumbells.

Notice it is 30 years later and you've never heard of that chain.

i did deadlifts 3 days and still hurting. :D i would have said, "the owner is a fucking moron and you will never see me in this gym again."

the employee was pretty frank: "i know the owner is a dick"

i did tell him though that this was my last day and that the owner could blow me, then i finished up. FUCK THAT PLACE.

if youre in miami you prolly know what gym im taking about.

I cant remember who told me, whether it was a friend or someone on the boards, but he used to attend a gym where you were not allowed to bang the weights. He was doing db bench and lightly tapping the weights at the top, and one of the employees interrupted him and told him he had to stop. :FRlol:

I woked out in a gym in Texas about 5 years ago and you couldn't click the weights. Actually I got used to it and still today, I don't click the weights. I couldn't stand it at first, but then I got used to it. Its a stupid rule anyway. BamBam

I have been to three Gyms here in Germany so far. The first one was ALL machines and cardio, and part of the membership fee included a personal trainer that would help train you. (Money well spent I'm sure as the "trainers" were classic skinny fat)

The second was a little better, it actually had real weights, but only took up a small section of the gym. It was useable, even though it was elbow to elbow with guys doing curls.

The third Gym I found is like a theme park (It's huge even by North American Standards). They actually have enough weights for me (no place to deadlift fuck!!), but they add a ton of shit you don't need. About a 1/4 of the gym is an Egyptian themed Sauna area with baths, relaxation beds, etc, etc. And they also have a big health drink bar. (you can't bring your own water in, and there are no fountains)

And the ultimate piss off about German gyms: They NEVER rerack the dumbells in order, they are always completely mixed up. They have a few "bus boys" who just run around collecting empty glasses from all the useless sugar drinks they sell, but no one (or rules) to keep the dumbells in order.

Oh well, other than the gyms everything is roses here. Sorry for the rant. :)
