newbie TRT in NY - what questions should i ask?

Hey guys, I'm a newbie here but a not a nb to bbing or working out. I'm 33 and have trained clean my whole life but like many others I'm interested in TRT.

My goal is too see what my levels are, get some test cyp to get them in the high normal range. I had my test levels tested a few years back by a reg doc and I was just 30 points above the bottom end. My doc told me as long i was in the range I'm fine.

I live in NY (just north of the city) and saw a recommendation for Dr. Gordon. he wrote the book "the hidden disease". I'm gonna give his office a call tomorrow and see if I can get an appointment.

Can you guys recommend questions to ask when i call.... make sure i'm not gonna waste my money

Anyone have any experience with Dr. Gordon? anyone else i should call?

Thanks

If they wont fully disclose pricing of supplies, just keep walking. Aside from that normal GP's and Endos treat for lab numbers so if your in the normal range they likely will be of little help. HRT/TRT clinics treat for the symptoms of aging, which often include low test, low labido, high estrogen (in men) and all the mental side effects that accompany the decline in changing hormone levels as we age. Because they treat the mental aspect they are not as concerned with what your test numbers are on a blood test. They are more concerned with your overall blood work and you overall health. In short they can often get you high normal or even more test as long as everything else is good (cholesterol, BP, etc etc).

I am basically in the same boat as you, my levels were 300 total test and now my endo is re doing the blood work which i will get the results on Saturday, Anti aging docs wont take insurance as far as i know and it can get expensive. I called a doc in NYC since i work here and live a little farther north than you up in dutchess county and he wanted 1800 up front and 600 every 3 months
granted there are other places online but i am not to sure of those places.
good luck !!

if the doc is good just be honest Anti aging docs look to get you at the higher end of the scale and are more concerned with how you feel in general not just the numbers
i might look up this doc your talking about

That price is ridiculous, have some local places like that by me...thanks but no thanks!

Expect to pay for blood work, a reasonable price and for supplies (which is a bit more than underground granted, but not too crazy) with a nominal processing fee. Aside from that if they want some huge retainer and wont tell you exactly what a jug of this or a tab of that costs, just keep walking.

I called today and Dr Gordon is a doc of internal medicine and he specializes in testosterone deficiency. They seemed nice and took their time on the phone to see if my ins would cover the visit. I have an HMO and they said if I made him my primary it would be covered. Meds should be covered and he writes scripts that you can fill anywhere.

If ins doesn't cover it the initial visit is $150 and followups are $65. not including bloodwork

i told the woman on the phone what happened with my other doc and she agreed that isn't good.

So far they seem to be on the up and up. I made an appointment for June 9th so I'll update then. Jcratty75 if you're looking for a place then you might wanna give them a call.

There was another place in CT that wanted $800 for the initial visit F that!

I will give them a call thanks since the follow up i had with a endo ended up with nothing since im not below the 250 for total test even my wife didnt understand why the doc wont help.

looking forward to your reply

yeah my App is next thurs June 9th. I'm a little concerned because I recently read that book he wrote and in it he said that he normally treats men with 300-400mg shot of test every 3-4 weeks. No mention of HCG or anything else. Everything I've read online says to inject every week.

I'm 2 hours away from his office so I plan to call before and ask about his protocol.. I'll let you know what i find out

Wow i'm so glad i came on here tonight. I have been looking for a new Dr to see for HRT and came upon this thread. There are no coincidences! Im definitely going to call him tomorrow. By the way how is he working out for all of you guys that are seeing him?

I sound like a broken record on this but I strongly suggest finding compounding pharmacies in your area and calling them for referrals to TRT docs. Doesn't mean you have to go with compounded test (though I recommend it) but if a doc prescribes compounded test that usually means they are reasonable and aren't one of these "high end designer HRT shops" that scam people with riduculous prices. The good ones I have found are open to trying the different methods of delivery and picking what works best for you. Google for compounding pharms, call a couple, ask for a couple referrals from each and in an hours time you should have a decent sense for the market of TRT docs around you and what they will and wont do.
