New squat question?

Got into a discussion about my butt with my S/O today and seems he thinks my butt is round except at the bottom (no pun intended) where it seems to be square. Anyway, do you girls think that ATF squats would target that particular area enough to maybe round it out a lil bit? The part I am talking about is where alot of women have saddlebags or "smilies" from tanning. Please help me out here as I am beginning to develop a complex about my butt being 1) flat and 2) square.

BTW, I have not been able to train for almost 4 weeks now because of illness and injury from auto accident but plan on resuming my training tomorrow a.m.

What is your squat form like now? Is your rear like that due to fat or the shape of the muscle? Any chance you could just poke your SO's eyes out? ;)

Personally, I think deadlifts create the best butts. Especially on men. *temporary mental digress, picturing a certain man deadlifting*

Seriously, try incorporating some deadlifts and romanian deadlifts (RDLs) in your program - your butt will love you. After my first contest diet cycle, my butt looked quite flat - I guess there was more fat there than I thought. :-) I've been doing RDLs and DLs consistently, and have a much better shaped derriere.

LOL! YOu girls are hilarious! Basically, I had started doing ATF squats specifically for booty building. But it seems that although I feel some muscle soreness afterwards in the glutes, I feel more in my hammies and quads. I do know that about 2 weeks after incorporating ATF squats late last year, I could see my jeans and other slacks fitting differently in the derriere. Possibly some "perkiness"? As for fat and muscle tissue in that area, would it really be possible to develop a round butt muscle, as in actually changing the shape? Maybe the deadlifts might make a difference, however I always feel DLs in erectors and hammies more so than glutes. What are romainian deadlifts? Any videos out there demonstrating?

I wouldn't want to poke out my boyfriends eyes cause they are just too gorgeous and I always melt when I look into them. I geuss that is why he can get away with saying something as tacky as what he said. I am such a sucker!:p

Forgot to mention, my bodyfat is hovering aroun 19-20%, so might that be another contributor to a "square" butt appearance?

Work on your body for yourself, not some SO who might not always be there. I bet he has a few areas that could use improvement!

I just recently (within the last three months?) incorporated squats (such as they are! :D ) and deadlifts into my routine. I have to say that these really have made a difference.

I also do pull-throughs and must say that I (at least) really feel these in the glutes and hams, but perhaps that has to do with stance?

Hmmm... if she can't, can we? Don't you love how men are trying to be "helpful"? "But honey you asked me to be honest!" UGH.

:lmao:

square butts

to get that rounder-heart shaped butt you need to add lunges/ SLDLs... hitting only squats cuases the glutes to become overdeveloped-- resulting in a square ass-- not a round one.

(Ooops, missed another pic)
I don't think so! Sounds like tabloid physiology.

Seriously, I think genetics plays the biggest role in muscle shape, before and after development. My guess is the square look has more to do with the BF% and the lack of development in general of the muscle UNDER it.
