My Weekend at Westside and Nazareth Barbell (VIDEOS ADDED)

Some of the PL lingo threw me....I thought for several moments that "raw" meant you normally squatted naked. Since I have actually done this a few times I felt vindicated in my eccentricity.

I worked up to 180 something raw, then shirted up, and they taught me how to set up with an arch. I couldn't get 250 or 260 to touch. So Mike said screw it you're gonna do 290.

Are you benching here now?? Dear God!

Spatts you've got a ton of potential as do your crew, I would like to see you hit 400 in the next 6 mts or so, if you or any of the guys need anything do not hesitate to call 610-438-2902

Thanks, mule. As I told Deb, the best thing you have going for you, as a coach/instructor, is your listening skills. You answered all my questions without getting impatient, and really took your time while I was learning the set up. Every time I had a question or concern, you helped me get right past it without a hitch. I want to come back for the weekend with Bob Youngs in September, if I can pull it off.

People, this guy put 60 pounds on my bench press in about an hour. If you need help, CALL THE NUMBER, go to a seminar.

Anya, yes, the 295, 315, 330 etc...were bench press numbers.

I'm still mildly humored that I have a bench press at all. I never want to hear someone bitch about their biomechanics again. I have ape arms, and I fully intend to close in on the women's record for my weight class.

Thanks, again, Mule!!

HOLY CRAP, you bench press over 300 pounds?!? Is there somewhere we can see closeups of your tris, delts and pecs?

There's not much to see, but there are some in my gallery. Everything is coated in a nice squishy layer of fat and water right now. :D

The gallery unfortunately doesnt help me since all I can see are tiny pics.

Do you think your huge bench numbers are more a function of PL form? I have seen on old threads, I guess maybe a year back, where you mentioned a bench of 175. 130 pound gain in a year is a giant increase. So I'm wondering how much of the poundage increase is actual strength gains and how much do you think is from new lifting techniques?

First, let's compare apples to apples. The 170 was a raw bench, and the 330 was a shirted bench. So I didn't really gain 160 in a year. Second, it's absolutely about form. Think about this weekend...Mike didn't give me new triceps, a new spine, new shoulders. He gave me new form; that's the only thing that changed.

WOW!! Spatts, awesome lifts. So now that you have done 330 bench what is your goal for your next meet? I can't wait to hear how great you and the crew have done.

I see, so the benching shirt adds that much to the lift. I didnt realize. I'm guessing it varies significantly from one person to another, but what would you say is the range for adding to the overall poundage? In your case it looks like you improved by about 75%.
