Military training?

One of my co-workers has joined the Army. He doesn't report to basic training until January, but they've already got him attending weekly PT sessions, and now they're stepping it up from once a week to twice and he gets closer to beginning his service.

I didn't realize that you had to do homework before Basic Training, when did they start doing this?

theyve been doing it for a while now...they do it to ensure you pass the pt tests which is the biggest reason for new recruit washouts
recruiters will do it with select prospective recruits and the guard in most states does it with all new recruits
its resulted in higher soldier retention

he joined the guard I'm assuming because only the guard do you swear in first, report later (that far out anyway)
when I enlisted I had 8 weeks before I reported to basic..I did pt and went to drills before I went and had all of my uniforms/gear before shipping out

sigh... wish I enlisted when i was younger. Still want to at 32

As far as I know it's the US Army, not the National Guard. I don't engage him on the subject because he's an obsessed fanboy about it and won't stop blabbering on and on if you give him half a chance. He's got Army wallpaper and screen savers on his computer, and even an Army mousepad. Apparently he's slated for paratrooper training. They've already flown him out to Ft. Benning in GA twice, just for some kind of registration and orientation.

I started working there in June, and he was already at it then. For a while he was spending half his work day every day on the phone getting scammed by some national bank, so he can deposit his Army pay, and they've conned him into some big insurance package and a personal loan

If he's coming to ft benning he's coming for airborne training as you stated. I live right next to that post and the majority of new recruits that are there are coming for the same training. That's pretty cool db.

Damn him for being passionate about the Army and his potential career!

We might get lucky and he'll become more cynical and turn into more of a worker/drone over time. Hope springs eternal.

If youre a fatbody the military will start you out on PT months before basic.
