Ladies, who experiences symptoms of insulin resistance due to preworkout caffeine?

Symptoms you'd notice during vigorous physical activity would be if you noticed you ran out of energy much more quickly than when you didn't consume caffeine preworkout.

We're not talking about a general sort of tired feeling you might have after having not slept enough or feeling generally rundown, but rather just feeling as if your muscles simply ran out of energy and feel week. You might even have a trembley feeling in your hands, though they might not actually tremble. Relaxing after you workout you might even start to suddenly sleepy.

The effects of IR for you might be rather slight though (it's not an all or nothing thing) so you'll want to have workouts w/o caffeine to which you can compare your caffeinated workouts.

Hmmm...I do get very sleepy after workouts sometimes. Like, have a hard time staying awake sleepy. And it's not all the time, and I don't think effort has to do with it. But I don't know about the others. Might be worth paying attention to.

What's the conclusion here, though? That if you experience this you should consume caffeine pre-workout? I've never really understood how insulin works in the bodybuilding process.

I could try this, as I usually have a tea and coffee before working out.
I've never really noticed weakness, but then again I have nothing to compare it too.
Tomorrow I'll try it. (urk)

The only time I have ever noticed anything, is if I do pwo cardio after a killer lifting workout, then at times I will get light headed or "blah" feeling but I always attributed that to blood sugar levels being depleted from all the work?? Or that was my thoughts when the carbs are a tad lower for me anyways.

If you experience the symptoms I mentioned you would want to avoid caffeine consumption preworkout. It's pretty well documented that caffeine temporarily increases insulin resistance, which is not good.

Your pancreas releases the hormone insulin in response to glucose entering the blood stream. Your digestive organs (beginning with the saliva in your mouth) uses enzymes to turn any sort of carb into glucose. The insulin in your bloodstream migrates to the liver, subcutaneous fat layer and all muscles in order to shuttle the glucose into the needed tissues. Insulin resistance means the tissues of the body become resistant to the effects of the insulin and the glucose is not able to pass into the tissues. The pancreas responds by continuing to pump out more insulin until there is enough for the glucose to move into the needed tissue.

It's not desirable for the pancreas to have to overwork like this because it can, over years, eventually fail and you become diabetic. In the meantime what you notice after carb meals is sleepiness and/or noticeable lack of energy in your muscles when you exert yourself because the overload of insulin in your blood eventually had the effect of driving your blood sugar too low. Low blood sugar makes you snoozy. Instead of your blood sugar ending up back at let's say 88 mg/dl in 4 hours it could crash back to that level in 40 minutes.

Because insulin is a nutrient shuttling compound it can be helpful in bodybuilding to capitalize on it's natural release triggers because you can move more glucose into the depleted muscles after a workout. If you succeed in doing that after every hard workout the net effect over time can be faster recovery times and, eventually, faster lean muscle building gains.
