This may be a dumb question but what did you do to your knee?

On Feb. 1st, while skiing, I fell & tore my right ACL and also tore my right Lateral Meniscus......then I had surgery on 4/4 to reconstruct my ACL - which means I got a new one (cadaver graft) & have been going to Physical Therapy ever since to get my range of motion/strength back.....

Jens,

Hey honey

I apologize for my lack of reading but how is the knee? Can you do any impact exercises yet? If not, when can you expect to?

How do you feel body is responding to lack of alcohol? Physical & emotional/mental?

Can you feel/see differences?

How are you feeling as far as the depression issue? That is a tough one to overcome ... I've been concerned ...

Nuttin but loff

Knee is getting better.....scars look ugly & I have to make sure not to get any sun on them.....No weighted/unweighted closed-chain exercises as of yet - probably not until 12 weeks post-surgery due to the Lateral Meniscus Tear....he's letting that heal on its own.....

I seem to be less depressed lately......tho the Job-hunt is kind of depressing as NO ONE has responded yet - it'd be nice to just get a thanks/no thanks response - I mean ANY kind of response would be nice, ya know??

As far as the no alcohol......it seems to help with the depression also, as I read that alcohol intake can add to depression....plus I don't have the excess calories of course.....I'm bloated right now from *.* so, so far I don't really see any differences physically......

I hear you Jenscat! I was 13 when I blew my ACL playing football. I spun off someone and POP. I had to keep playing a quarter and hurt so bad.

I did a month of "prehab" and had full strength and flexibility in my knee before surgery. I think it made some of the recovery a little easier on me. After surgery I had my full flexibility back in about two weeks. I was playing baseball again in about 4.5 months.

All in all it sucks and I hate that it happened to you. On a brighter note, I came back stronger and faster after it happened and I am sure you will too. Keep working hard!!

Hey thanks!! It seems to be a very common injury....it's amazing all the people I now "know" who've had the same injury.....

I had "pre-hab" too for 2 months but still lost the majority of my quad muscle, but it's coming back.....I have a burst/strength test next Friday to see how strong it is.......

I won't be able to be as active as I'd like to be for a while longer due to the meniscus tear, so I'm trying to be patient...... ;)

I concur. Just listen to your PT and Doctor, you don't want to do anything to jeopardize the graft. I know you know this, but I felt like I had to say something doctory since I am 1/4 of the way to getting my MD ;) haha!

I appreciate that!! Cuz in a couple of years you'd charge me $200 for that advice!! :lmao:

I think I'm now (2 months post-surgery) at the point where the graft is the WEAKEST, so yes, I have to be very careful....

I had the patella tendon graft and I had to give it about 6 weeks to re-vasularize before I could put significant extensor stress on it. I am not sure about allograft protocol though.
