Damn, those are some scary cows, I bet they listen to metal.

I took too long to write a reply puddlemonkey, because i really set out to do my homework. It was my first little adventure into the world of metal. I listened to every song many times so that i do not judge anything on first impressions alone. This music goes very well with porn and sexual activity. Next time i am having sex, this music would be playing loud and proud.

Also it left a taste of a lot of rawness in my mouth. I sort of realized, that there is reality, but then there are fundamentals of reality, of life, in its simplest and truest forms which metal represents really well. It really hits the spot for me, there is not much i can say really.

Here I ordinarily categorized all the songs that you have posted so far. I will start with songs that very either too harsh for me or did not evoke much emotion or movement in my body and mind. It is odd how initially i thought that the rougher the music the less i would like it, but that was not the case. So you might find my taste a bit unorthodox. :)

Here are the ones that did not effect me, and music i failed to tune into.

Bloodbath-SoYouDie.mp3
Einherjer-OutOfGinnungagap.mp3
Kamelot-TheFourthLegacy.mp3
MalevolentCreation-PreemptiveStrike.mp3
SoulDemise-InVain.mp3
Suffocation-DespiseTheSun.mp3
TheCrown-DeathExplosion.mp3

The next set of songs consisted of good music. Music that i can bear and can get used to and have some effect on me.

AllShallPerish-Deconstruction.mp3
Carcass-GoToHell.mp3
Cryptopsy-Phobophile.mp3
Dismember-OfFire.mp3
Dozer-TheHillsHaveEyes.mp3
FearFactory-Demanufacture.mp3
IcedEarth-BurningTimes.mp3
Immortal-WithstandTheFallOfTime.mp3
Sentenced-Neverlasting.mp3
Trouble-TragedyMan.mp3
Unleashed-TheAvenger.mp3
Witchery-TheReaper.mp3
ZeroHour-ThereForMe.mp3

Alright, this next set of songs were impressive. I thought they were awesome. I have been listening to them as i am studying or working out. Just great music.

AmonAmarth-FriendsOfTheSuncross.mp3
BabylonWhores-Somniferum.mp3
GodDethroned-VillaVampiria.mp3
Grave-BulletsAreMine.mp3
HeavenShallBurn-Counterweight.mp3
impious_burn_the_cross.mp3
InfernalWar-ImpureIdolatry.mp3
Manegarm-Tradatanke.mp3
Ministry-NewWorldOrder.mp3
misery_loves_co_the_only_way.mp3
Moonspell-Opium.mp3
NovembersDoom-DrownTheInlandMere.mp3
PitchShifter-Virus.mp3
rorschach_test01.mp3
Samael-Rain.mp3
Skrew-SamIAm.mp3
SolitudeAeturnus-Awakening.mp3
ZuulFx-BehindTheLight.mp3

But of course there are songs that are absolutely my favourites. It was love at first listen sort of thing.

Emperor-ThusSpakeTheNightspirit.mp3
Vader-Xeper.mp3

And finally this song. Its very special. Its very educational. Its slow and nice to the newbie, and teaches one a lot about metal besides the fact that it is probably the best music i have heard in this genre.

Morgion-TheSerpentineScrolls.mp3

There you have it big bro. That is my taste in metal. Thanks for taking the time once again to get me started.

You like Grave? Wow. Not that that's a bad thing... I'm just surprised.

Demanufacture was a great album.

Immortal and Emperor are Supreme Prestigious Black Metal. My username Samoth is actually Emperor's guitarist. :D

Moonspell's Wolfheart is a classic album, overshadowing anything they have every produced.

Everyone likes Sentenced, duh.

Techno Samael or black/death Samael?

Lemme guess, Unleashed are still on Century Media and putting out albums, lol...

Sub, check out Arcturus's The Masquerade Infernale and Borknagar's The Olden Domain.

No problem bro, I'll leave the songs up for some time in case you want to refer back to anything. And of course keep in mind this is just one song from a bands discography, which could include 100 songs. Some bands such as Samael have changed their sound drastically over time. They started as death metal, then went on to later put albums out that was basically a bunch of casio home keyboard dribble. The song you heard was right around the time they started changing sounds. I'm surprised you like Emperor so much, most of the time when a n00b hears Emperor they initially think, "wall of noise". But even bands like Cryptopsy follow a pattern to a T, however, those who are so use to radio ready verse course verse stuff have a difficult time deciphering whats going on. That Vader song is from the album "Litany", which you'll like very much if you liked that song. Morgion is a criminally underrated doom band from Orange County CA. That track is my favorite from their "Solinari" album. Incredible atmosphere, pummeling production, and just flat out quality doom metal. Their last album, "Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth" had a different sound, little less deathy and heavier on atmosphere. Couple of Morgion members are now in a band called Keen Of The Crow. Amon Amarth would also be a safe bet like the Vader if you wanted to pick something up by them. Two of my favs are "Once Sent From The Golden Hall" and "With Odin By Our Side". If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM or e-mail me.

Actually their new album is on Steamhammer, and its their best since the debut. After 10 albums with CM, they leave and make what could be their finest, thats gotta piss CM off.

I agree on the Arcturus and Borknagar, must haves if you like that Emperor. Of course thats after you get "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk".

shhheeww... lol. Its time to buy and/or dl a lot of music now. It is perhaps the biggest musical revolution in my life, since back when i was a teen.

Demanufacture, i have that in my notes now.

It is interesting to finally find out where your username comes from. I always thought it was read backwards as 'thomas' and figured that was your real name. hehe. sorry. now i will never forget the name of Emporer's guitarist.

I will also keep your recommendations - The Masquerade Infernale and Borknagar's -The Olden Domain in mind, and will let you know when if I am thoroughly enjoying it.

THANK YOU!

Opeth is a great band if you like longer-winded songs. Their newest release gives the listener a taste of the true potential of Mike's vocal prowess.

Note that, especially in black metal, bands can change drastically over the period of just an album or two, whether production, general sound/style, members, or even musical genres [see: anything Garm has participated in, lol:

Bergtatt =/= Kveldsanger =/= Nattens Madrigal =/= Marriage of Heaven and Hell =/= Perdition City soundtrack, for one extreme example.]

Got all the music on my hard drive/ipod the moment i saw them. I really appreciate you putting them up. Your knowledge in metal is extraordinary. All your posts are also saved on my harddrive for quicker references. I will slowly but consistently expand my knowledge on metal, and maybe in some time, i will know enough from which i can form and defend an opinion.

Now i know who the elite metal heads are. I will definitely pose more questions and would value the opinions of people such as yourself and samoth in the near future.

It is also interesting to observe the difference in opinion of two experts on metal. One can learn a lot from that. :)
