More and more I'm hearing about people taking a recovery/whey shake 15 mins. pre, a few sipps during, and a recovery shake post...........just wondering how your results have been for those using it pre and during......obviously its critical post.......what are you taking?
I once was a total ectomorph and even @ 37my metabolism is still pretty fast.
I generally eat a muffin and dink 20 grams of protein prior to my workout.
I take 20 grams of protein and 35 grams of maltodextrin about half way thru my workout.
When I get to work I eat 2 slices of 12-grain bread w/spray butter and jelly and a 60-gram shake that I consume over about an hour.
I usually get a good pro/car eal in 1 and 1/2 hour pre with coffee right before.......thought about the during whey/dext shake, but I'l prob. just hold off and have fruit/oats/whey post...........
Do a little protien or simple carbs but don't over due it. You body has a priority it likes to do things and digesting food is number one on the list...so the body will direct blood flow more to your core organs if you have a full belly of food. This is good..Usually. It is BAD if you have a stomach full of food and go workout, because then your oxygen rich blood is taking care of other things, not your muscle fatigue...so wait till right afterwards to do any serious protein shake.
Pre workout usually have a 25g whey shake w/ water and a granola bar or bagel. I usually have a bottle of liquid aminos with me at the gym, so i sip from that every so often durring my workout (2 tablespoons= 15g protein). Post workout i usually have another 25g whey shake w/ milk and a bannana blended in there, flavored yogurt, and a little bit of pop for some quick simple sugars. Then i wait about 45min to an hour and eat.
For me anything other than water during my workout =
I spread my protien intake out during the day but I usually have a protien shake (80g's or so) in the AM (shortly after I get up) and another about an hour before bed. Works well for me.
