I know you will get mad on this but ....

First off you cannot compare FOOD against a Liguid Meal. Food will always be much better for you, except in one instance, and that's after you work out.

Purpose of your whey shake is to shuttle the nutrients into your muscles as fast as possible, and if using whey it will be approximately 20 minutes. To replenish glycogen use maltodextrin or dextrose. You will be Anabolic w/in 20min. after a workout. If you eat a solid meal it will take much longer a time, leaving you catabolic for a much longer period of time. If you miss this shake, IMO you miss a prime time for growth.

Taking the above into consideration, IMO it cannot replace actual food. A supplement is just that, it's merely a "supplement" not a replacement for the real deal, food.
 
What your asking would be hard to quantify.

Don't think of protein powder as a supplement but as food you buy at the grocery store.


The only real reasoning I can see in what your saying is if we were not using protein powder as an easy way to get our requirements for protein in, do we think that its advantage of fast digestion actually helps much over real food post workout.

The answer to that wouldn't be how much muscle could we contribute to it, but a yes or no does it improve recovery. Answer being yes, my downtime is less between training muscle groups if I'm able to take in whey post workout as opposed to regular whole foods.

I guess if say it takes me 4 days to rest now and it would take me 5 days if I hadn't been consuming whey post workout. I would get in 5 training cycles worth of training for every 5 of non fast digestion protein postworkout,

multiplay that over the time you have been training to find X amount of additionally gained cycles then count back by X and see where you were back then you could assume the difference in strength/size is what was directly contributed by whey.


Of course an insane amount of other things effects training so that would be way off. The whey aint going to do jack if your diet is fucked up anyway.

Of course many people follow a weekly schedule so they wouldn't condense there workouts even if they could train more frequently so you could ask whats the point for them, well faster recovery is usually also and indication of better recovery meaning better compensation for the trauma caused during strength training meaning more strength for next round and more mass to follow.
 
its not that they dont work bro. something else could be the problem, like poor overall diet, training, recuperation time. maybe its u that doesnt work

You're right they don't work. Because I ate 4 Protein Shakes a day (65 grams of Protein each) and 3 Regular Meals, I only gained about 35 lbs in less than 5 months,... Naturally.

So ya, you're right, those bullshit powders don't work.

They are only made to help you gain muscle by making it easier to add protein to your diet....of course, if not training right and not eating good overall, then you aren't going to make progress just drinking shakes.........

Totally true, protein shakes are just a supplement, it's just an aid, proper diet and training are the keys. You can rely total on protein shakes.
