Well i want to gain some strength/mass but not get too big because i play basketball and want to remain quick but i find it hard to schedule time to bulk. I tried during the winter but thats basketball season and when id eat more/gain weight i became slightly slower and my workouts would tire me out even though i never lifted on game days..having practice 6 days a week + working out 3-4 really wore me out

I was thinking about bulkin during the summer but i have summer league basketball + i want to be lean for the summer(who doesnt)
So i really want to kno if i should bother bulking up or just lift to stay where im at. Id really like to get bigger/stronger because i kno it will help me out when im playing basketball

Also, i was wonderin for someone whos 16..relatively new to supplements should use creatine or whey protein i have been lifting for awhile and gained significant size but it seems to of stopped. Id like to use supplements but my friends seem to think that creatine is like steriods and somehow makes you "not natural" Though i have done research and i dont think thats the case
Is whey protein better or is there other supplements. Ive read about No2 and Cell-Tech but i dont kno the real facts about supplements because ive read alot of different articles/stories

Thank you all help appreciated

most recommend working out seriously for a year or so, so you make use of the creatine. But if you know how to lift and can afford it, it shouldnt hurt.

Whey protein PWO is always helpful in reaching your protein goals too.

interesting... there is specifc training routines directed at increasing strenght. For the mass part, well, if you are not on a caloric surplus, you won't get any mass, so there.

However, as a basketball player I would have thought stamina, endurance, agility and speed are the kex things you are after, not mass?

depends on what he's playing.....you playing the front court or the back court? he may need to build some leg strength and uppper body mass for rebounding, posting up, box outs etc. sounds like your doing tons of cardio year round so even if you tried 5x5 i can't imagine you will get that bulky. if your calories and diet are not in surplus

what are your stats so we can help you further

i played tennis and basketball in highschool....when i first started lifting (about 16) i did all core exercises about 3-4 days a week...except i did about 8 reps not 5. helped me out dramatically in terms of strength, mobility and speed. maybe a modified version would be better but i think that is the way to go speaking from personal experience. i also had a an older friend to show me the right and wrong way to lift so when i was lifitng heavy i was doing it correctly...that is a big concern...you don't want to lift heavy and be all over the gym with the weights your hoisting up...make sure your reps are controlled!

also very important ...lift first and THEN play ball....you'll be sore as sh!it the first few times but you'll get used to it and it will help your shot mechanics stay the same while you put on mass

i play guard, im kinda short(5'7, around 140-150 not sure if thats a good weight or not but i come from a family with slow metabolism and alot of eating so totally goin into a diet is hard around here with all the junk constantly being made and ive learned to face it that Reese Peanutt butter cups are a weakness of mine

Anyway ya stamina, endurance, speed, agility are major concerns but i dont wanna look "weak" i was thinking about it and maybe i should just work on strength during my highschool years then after work on mass.. i dont plan on goin to college for basketball anyway so i could get my mass then and jus be all-around strong for now

So this leaves me with a question is how do i get stronger while burning alot of calories, staying lean, but yet not eating a whole lot to gain mass...
Im hoping this is possible ill have to do some reading which is fine

but for now i got to go work on an english final so ill check back later hoping for good responses

well to answer your question honestly about how to get stronger without putting on size.....there isn't. the fact is the more you weigh when your working out the more you will be able to lift...some people just have great genetics where they can diet...lose 15 pounds and still put up the same wight they were pushing before. most people don't have that luxury... fortunately you are young and by continuing to lift you will progressively get stronger as your body is still naturally producing test no matter what you eat.

my suggestions....eat right...train hard. not sure if anyone on this board is going to to be able to give you the right answer...not sure there is one. your still growing and no one can say for sure how your strength and mass will progress. keep a diary and journal your progress this way you can make corrections if you think your putting on too much weight and not enough speed etc etc....good luck bro
