How to find a good shade of lipstick

I have all these tubes of lipstick. I buy them and get them home and I hate them. How can I find a good color? I've been wearing lipgloss forever but I'd like to be able to wear lipstick too. I would like to find a good red too. Anyone know of a good blue based red lipstick?

I already "know my color" it's shades of brownish reds (not copper) and since I dont wear lipstick that much I go with ur regular pharmacy stuff (maybelline, L'oreal, cover girl, etc) I recommend to use the smudge proof liquid ones since they are lipstick and lip gloss in one....

take all you've got and try them on to see if any at all match your color, if not try pinks, reds, bronze and burgundy's if they are all wrong then start thinking which was best/least ugly and decide if it would be best lighter or darker.... taking pictures help, mirrors lie....

thanks nan. I only use drugstore makeup besides blush and eye makeup. I buy all lip and foundation/powder from Walgreens. I'll just keep trying. taking pics etc. Thanks. So far nothing looks good at all besides lipgloss

I prefer shades that are pretty close to my natural color - usually just a slight plum in them, though. Have you tried matching your natural color, and just going a shade darker? The ones I love are the ones with a color wand on one end and the gloss on the other......they last pretty much all day for color, and you just have to regloss every once in a while. No leaving lipstick marks on cups or straws or anything (i hate that) and it always looks pretty natural. No nasty lipstick taste, either. Cover Girl, Maybelline and Revlon all make them, I believe.....

I use Garnier facial wipes.....you know, the wipes that almost every brand has that will take off make-up. I use those at the races a lot when I don't have time at night to totally wash my face. They will usually take off the colorstay stuff.....:)

I always wonder wtf would happen if we didn't wash our makeup off? I mean does it age us faster or something? I fall asleep w/ my makeup on on the weekends, I don't break out or anything

I can't wear blue based, but a nice one is Russian Red by MAC.
.
I used to wear red lipstick when I was a teen though, and I am a fan of Dior lipstick for the taste and feel. I don't know any blue based ones offhand by them though.
