How to avoid broad shoulders?

Hi everyone

I've been using weights for about 3 years on and off.....so iv never really had a chance to develop my strength properly, but iv started being consistant. However, one thing i'v always had a problem with is my shoulders getting broad....i want to be strong but not loose my femininity either.

I get to a shoulder press of 34lbs x 8 and my shoulders are noticebly broader...im just wondering is 34lbs for a shoulder press is alot? does this happen to anyone else? Is it the shoulder press causing it? Any tips on avoiding this?

My other lifts are as follows : Deadlift 110lbs x 12 (2 sets)
Bench press: 56lbs x 8 (2 sets)
Lateral pulldown: 74lbs x 7 (2 sets)
Tricep Bench press: 50lbs x 8 (2 sets)
Squat: 94lbs x 10 (2 sets)
Barbell Curl: 39lbs x 7 (2 sets)

so basically id like to avoid manly style broad shoulders, any reccomendations for this?

free weights or machine.. i dont think that is alot, i like my shoulders and i do 20 each side on shoulder press using free weights

I'm confused ... you mean big deltoids or overly developed traps or what??? Or is it an optical illusion because you're dropping body fat and you're hips appear narrower???

I KNOW I have wide shoulders -- being tapped on the shoulder by an woman in the supermarket saying, "Excuse me sir, could you help me reach that box?" is kind of a hint :), not being able to fit into most women's coat and jacket styles another. It's a genetic thing like some women have shoulders narrower than their hips, I'm the reverse. Boy was I glad when shoulder pads went out.

I do all of the upper body exercises that you do and a couple of others and haven't really noticed a difference in the actual width of my shoulders.

Actually I'd have to agree w/ MM -- I can blow the shoulders out of most any sleeved top I own if I have a mind to. Not to mention most girls DON'T have broad shoulders and fight to get nice delts & width, esp for competition.

If you aren't liking whatever it is that you see developing, either stop training it or go to a different approach - using maybe just cables for lighter weights, more reps, shaping work.
