Hoist Fitness Equipment: Theory of Operation?

I hate machines.

How do Hoist Fitness machines work? I tried one for the first time today and it appears to progressively add a small portion of your body weight into the lift.

Again, I normally hate machines. But these machines appear to add compensatory resistance and it reminded me of how we add chains to barbells for squats and bench press. Chains definitely work, which makes me think these machines might work as well.

Has anyone looked into the theory behind how these machines work?

i think their kind of shitty. its definately not like chains or bands. i see a few guys use them a lot that seem to do ok.

The machines I saw today looked at least as well-built as the Hammer Strength equipment.

I noticed that because your body is in a rocking mechanism (hence the name "Hoist"), you don't get any leverage points either. You're effectively decoupled with the ground.

What I did notice is that soon after you break the intertia of the weight, it seems to get slightly heavier. I like real chains so much that I'm considering buying my own set and just leaving them at the gym. If these things can offer progressive resistance like a chain does, I'd definitely give them a try.

It's just a fluke that I tried the new machines anyway. The gym was too crowded with newbies so I had to escape to a quieter area.
