Heartrate shmartrate: are we using the wrong barometer for exertion/calorie expenditure?

Must spread more Karma before slathering what little i have all over Bunny and Lifter and Sarge.

As Mississippi John Hurt would have said, "Y'all are the roots, the rest are the fruits."
:) Better Check again :)

wouldnt the increased heart rate from the thermos be exactly what they are for? is that their mechanism of action. increased heart rate - more energy expended? so this would just aid you in exerting less to make the same gains?

i could be missing the whole thing here. good post, k to you.

Tim, check out the scenario with the crack/meth head: if that was the case, then just jacking up my heart rate to 65% would be ALL i would need to do to get shredded... even if i was at 65% just sitting on the sofa watching Gazelle informercials...

THAT CANT BE RIGHT... compare mr. heartrate jacked to mr. unstimmed: mr. unstimmed has a whole heap of skellatal muscle using a whole heep of ATP which is being replenished by both fats and glycogen, while mr. jacked is just sittin there letting his cardiac muscle do all the caloric consumption? me thinks not.

That neither negates nor answers the question.

in short:
heartrate is not a measure, it's an indicator
there are better indicators, but it's the easiest and cheapest one to find

isn't the point of stims to elevate body heat (more calories burned) and neural activity (makes you more fidgety), with increased heartrate as a side-effect? That what I meant by "indicator". In and of itself an increased heartrate likely isn't a noticeable difference.

(and, the crackhead spends his grocery money on crack...now THAT's dieting!!)
